Yogurt Question

How damaging would full fat yogurt be? I used to get the plain, full fat yogurt and sweeten it with splenda and add vanilla extract long before I started SBD. Since I am now in phase two and allowed to once again have yogurt I purchased the fat free plain and added the sweetner and flavoring but it just doesn't cut it. I don't like the "fat free" flavor. Would it be horrible if I ate a small (say 6oz.) of full fat yogurt everyday or should I try to aquire a "taste" for the ff?

I don't know what the official word on it will be, but my opinion is that it wouldn't be bad at all. Pretty much becuase that's exactly what I did. :) I started with plain regular yogurt, and once I got used to it, I then moved to fat free. Now I can actually eat a spoonful of plain, fat free yogurt and I like it! Not that I would eat a whole bowl of it like that, but I don't cringe when I lick the spoon. ROFL!!

Yogurt is SO good for you, I think it would be worth the extra calories to use regular plain instead of not at all. And it's DEFINITELY better than using the artificially flavored junk.

And for what it's worth, I still haven't switched to low fat cheeses. I just make sure I limit the quantities of it. I have still been losing weight slowly but surely. :)

Thanks for your opinion Leslie - I agree with you. Besides - when you look at the big picture (changing you eating habits for life) I think it's important that I am able to live with ALL of the changes (and I can't imagine never eating full fat yogurt again). Maybe I'll try mixing 1/2 1nd 1/2 -every little bit helps, right? ;)

Hi Faith,

I just wanted to point out that you've been denying yourself yogurt in phase 1 for no reason.

Yep, I have been dieting for almost 15 months straight now (52 lbs down!), and have realized that when you're in it for the long haul you really do need to make a few compromises here and there. Yes, the fat free is better than low fat. Low fat is better than full fat. But even full fat plain yogurt is a pretty darn healthy snack. :) Not only does it help you with calcium, but it also provids all those good bacteria that are especially beneficial to us girls :)

Anyhow, I bet after a couple of tubs of mixing half & half, you'll be just fine with the fat free. Are you sure that you're eating the full fat kind anyhow? I just checked the Dannon website and I've never even seen the full fat variety in our store. The kind I thought was the full fat (in the red container) is actually low fat. The fat free one is in a greenish container. Here is the link, so you can compare the nutritional info: http://www.dannon.com/dn/dnstore/cgi-bin/ProdSubEV_Cat_240859_SubCat_241707_NavRoot_200.htm
