Hi,
I know that breastfeeding mothers need extra calories when dieting. I didn't think this would apply to me, because my son only nurses about 1-2 times a day. However I am wondering if I should eat a little more - I haven't weighed in for a while and don't think I'll weigh myself until Sunday - but I am feeling more tired than I did before starting SBD. Should I just stick to the "regular" plan?

Hi Silve,
Yes, I'd say you do need more!
Thanks Maggie! I guess I've sort of "forgotten" that I'm still in the breastfeeding category - I thought I'd be fine without making any special adjustments to it anymore! I'll include some more dairy products and follow the guidelines and see if I'll feel different in a couple of days.
Thank you!
Silve
Definitely make a conscious effort to eat more. You'd be suprised how much your little one can get out of you in 1-2 nursing sessions. They get to be power-nursers! LOL
Try to make your extra calories help you get extra calcium, in particular. Otherwise, your body will give the baby your calcium and start taking what YOU need from your bones. Ack!
Remember to take your multi-vitamin or prenatals, too.

Thanks, Leslie! I seem to think that there's nothing in there but DS happily says "LOTS of milk!" so I guess it's not completely empty yet! I've eaten more today and this has definitely been my best day this week!

Hi Silve,
Just thought I'd chime in that I'm nursing my 20 month old, been on SBD since last June, and haven't made any "special" adjustments to the diet, even though my DD nurses considerably more than 2 times/day most days. What I have done is just eat to my hunger. That probably means larger portions than I might otherwise, but it's been so long, I don't know what a "normal" portion would look like. I do make sure I eat calcium rich foods whenever possible. So far I've lost over 35 pounds, though the last couple of months I have seriously slowed down b/c of problems fitting in exercise. Anyway, good luck finding a balance that works for you.
