How do I stop doing this??????
| Sun, 02-13-2005 - 9:17pm |
I cheat EVERY WEEKEND! I know I shouldn't do it, even when I'm ACTUALLY doing it, but I just can't seem to stop myself. And of course, once it starts, I can't stop. I think I had 6 sugar cookies today! It doesn't help that it's Valentine's tomorrow so there are goodies all around. How can I convince myself to be good on the weekends?????? I do pretty good during the week...

I think discipline and will power are waaaay overrated! Being prepared and organized work much better for me. Let will-power do it's job at birthday parties, and let your own home be a safe healthy haven.
For me, the things that work better than anything else are:
1) Remove temptation -- meaning, don't buy or make foods for other people if you can't also enjoy them. If for some reason someone in the house "needs" the junk food, then remove it from your flow of traffic. For me, this would mean getting it out of the pantry that I open a dozen times a day and into the coat closet or something. ;-). I also buy snack foods for the kids that I'm not crazy about. I really don't like pretzels and goldfish crackers, but can't keep my grubby paws off cheez-its! LOL
2) Have a plan - on Friday, jot down your meal and snack plan for the entire weekend. Plan for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, dessert. That way when you're feeling munchy, you know exactly what to reach for.
3) Stock up - have plenty of your SBD favorites on hand so you have lots of good things to look forward to and don't even feel the need to cheat.
Once you do this for 2 weekends, you'll probably be in a good groove and won't have to be as strict. Whenever I find myself getting off track, I revert back to these three things until it becomes second nature again. The trick is to keep coming back to center, instead of letting the inevitable slip-up get you so discouraged that you give up.

Hi Jessi,
For me, it's not as much a matter of self-discipline as it is removing the obstacles from my environment.
Leslie,
I really like what you said about having and knowing your must-do three things for success, and that by
