Again - edited for my week of a "full disclosure" menu! I'm eating a lot more than normal, I wonder what the deal is? :)
~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everyone!
It's a bright sunny day (albeit covered in snow!) here in SE Michigan. I am so sick of winter, but at least we have sunshine. My little 2 year old guy is doing much better after he came down with a nasty fever and hives yesterday. Today it's nothing that a few boxes of tissues won't take care of. :)
I feeling a little frustrated because I am at another "stuck weight". I know it's because I keep getting little bites of this and that, but it's still annoying because I did so well in January, losing 6 lbs. I haven't lost any in Feb. yet. I feel like I'm not very good at integrating the grains into my diet. Seems like I do much better on a P1 + one fruit + one grain routine. I wonder if that is normal? I'm going to be strict P2 through the weekend and see how it goes.
Here is my menu for the day:
B: egg scramble w/feta, ham and zuchinni; coffee w/milk
S: a small handful of nuts; ricotta w/vanilla and splenda
L: taco salad (ground turkey, salad fixin's, salsa); ham & cheese sandwich that DH refused (on whole wheat bread, so P2 legal)
S: grapes and LC cheese wedge
D: not sure yet -- had planned to do a roast in the crockpot, but DH reminded me that it's Lent so I have to find a meatless dinner instead.
Any fun plans for the weekend? We might take the kids to see the Pooh movie, if DS is feeling better.
Take care!
Leslie
OH WOW.. I should have checked yesterday's posts first! Congratulations Carol! How exciting for you and the family. Sending you lots of
~*~*~*~*~*strong healthy baby vibes~*~*~*~*~*
I surely don't mind if you stick around even if you're not religiously sticking to P2. There was recently a post about following P2 while pregnant/nursing. Did you check the archives for those types of posts? One suggestion for the daily posts is that you might just want to mention in your signature that you're doing a modified plan because you're pregnant, just for the newbies who otherwise might be confused about your menu! I think it's a great idea to stay on top of your healthy diet, I'm sure it will benefit you and the baby both!
Big CONGRATS!!!!
Hi Leslie: Sorry to hear about your little boy. Hope hes feeling better. As for the stall,I found that Phase 1 was to strict to stay on and Phase 2 there were too many fruits & grains to fool around with.Don't feel frustrated,I started this week, planning the phases just like you're doing by going on Phase 1 with (1) fruit & (1) grain carb per day,to me its normal and I'm losing 1/2 to 1 lb per day.Going to see what happen on my Tues W-I.If I lose,I'm staying on this combo until I reach goal. Hug Maryann
B=Crustless Zesty Lemon Pie v8 juice, and Plain Herb Tea.
S=mozz cheese stick
L= White Pizza Large bowl salad greens with F.V.
S=1c l/f yogurt
D=salad greens with F.V. 1 cod fish cake on mashed turnips and veggie blend
Dessert=BAKED APPLE
Hehe.. I'm talking to myself this morning. ;-)
Hey Bets - I read your post yesterday about being frustrated and in a rut. I can totally relate! I have been working at losing weight consistently for about 18 months now, and there are many times I'm just so sick of it that I'm ready to quit. But then I look back at my progress (I keep an Excel spreadsheet of my weekly weigh-in's) and seeing how far I've come and that is very motivating. That said, I took some time off (about 3 months) and did fine at maintaining. Got back in the groove in January, with a fresh attitude.
For what it's worth, your menu from yesterday is FINE!! Did you know that? Sourdough bread has an acid in it that is a carb-competitor. It's a much better choice than regular white bread. Maybe not as stellar as 100% whole wheat, but still a very decent choice.
Here are some suggestions:
1) spaghetti and garlic bread - I am in love with spaghetti squash and prefer it over real pasta, but I realize that might be weird trait on my part. Of course you know that whole wheat pasta is allowed on P2, right? I make a super hearty sauce w/mushrooms, ground turkey, zuchinni, all kinds of veggies, plenty of garlic, too. What about making garlic bread on whole wheat bread? Bet you could find a yummy loaf of whole wheat bread at a bakery that would almost be better than a nasty loaf of white bread from the grocery store. Of course, having whole whet pasta AND bread in the same meal would definitely use up your grain allowance for the day :)
2) Pizza - we make pizza at home. I usually do the dough in the bread machine, DH likes to do it by hand. Another alternative is to go ahead and order a thin crust pizza from your favorite place. I wouldn't do it every week, but it's certainly fine for a treat.
What I do when I'm feeling really "poor me" about my eating, is to set aside one treat meal or something I can really, really look forward to, and let the rest of the week be "perfect". See, as much as I'd like to enjoy a Big Mac, I surely wouldn't save it for my special meal. Ya know? Usually, after I enjoy that undiet meal, I'm ready to get back on track.
I agree with the advice from yesterday to try ramping UP on P2, and making your grains and fruits be well-planned. Why not enjoy a sandwich for lunch on a whole wheat pita, for example? Making good healthy grain choices is still better than eating baked chips.
As far as the crunch, how about popcorn?
Well, I've probably babbled long enough. Just thought you'd want to know that you are DEFINITELY not alone in your feelings. Just use it as an opportunity to learn something instead of a reason to give up.
P.S. I have a spreadsheet that helps keep track of the foods on P2. Email me via my profile if you want a copy of it. :)
Hey Maryann -
Mmmmmmmmmmmm! Your breakfast lemon pie sounds really good! I haven't yet tried to mix the SF jello w/yogurt, and I think you just convinved me. That would be really good with strawberries or rasberries, wouldn't it? :)
Good luck with the 1 grain and 1 fruit plan. I'm going to stick to that for a few days, too. That and drinking plenty of water :)
It's my favorite day of the week!
Good morning!
Suzy, I hope you feel better soon...rest up this weekend!
Maryann, I definitely have to try your Crustless Lemon Pie for breakfast next week that sounds sooo yummy :-)
Leslie, hang in there! We all go through those stalls (I also have not lost a single pound in February, grrrr), hopefully we'll all break through soon!
I'm going to have to run...here's today's menu:
B: Oat bran hot cereal and a banana
S: Mixed nuts
L: Chili, not sure what I'll be able to have with it
S: Sun Chips (best of what's available, unless they bring more mixed nuts)
D: Going to another all-night party tonight, so probably nothing good.
De: See above.
Shan
