Which Flatout Bread, which tortilla??

Just wondering, the phase 2 bread list says we should try to avoid breads labeled "low carb". So, what' the deal with the Flatout breads?

The multi-grain ones have 29 carbs, 14g fiber, 2g sugar, and list Stone Ground WW flour as the first ingredient after water.

The Low carb ones have 24 carbs, 15g fiber, 0 sugar, 1g sugar alcohol, and list Enriched Wheat flour as the second ingredient.

Which to use??

Basically same ??? for tortillas. Use WW or Low carb??

thanks!!
Michele

Hi Michele,

The tortillas I found are really, really good. I found them at Busch's and Meijer, but not Kroger. So depending on where you are, you may have difficulty finding them. Might be good to check out their website.

Anyhow, they are Tumaro's Gourmet Tortillas. They come in several flavors and are GREAT for wraps!!! They are so tasty that I add ham, roast beef, or turkey and 2 slices of lowfat American cheese WITHOUT mayo or dressing or anything.

They are 100 calories per serving, 2.5 grams of fat, NO saturated or trans fat, 13g carbs, 8 GRAMS OF FIBER, less than 1g sugar, and 6 GRAMS OF PROTEIN!!! Yummy! They are made with canola oil, so you know it is better than a lot of other oils out there.

Their website is http://www.tumaros.com/

Hope you can find them!!!

I have always wondered about those Flatout Breads too. I noticed on their website that the only one that is made with stone ground whole wheat flour is the one that is labeled, "Multi-grain"100% whole grain. The rest of them are made with enriched flour.

Hi Michele,

To make choices easier on yourself, always fall back on the guidelines for what a good grain/starch product is.

Ug, , I told you wrong about the Flatout flatbread - it is the Flatout Carbdown that you want - they have 15g of fiber...the regular ones only have 1-3g of fiber.

Actually, you should check out this link. The multi-grain, which are NOT listed with the Carbdown ones, have 14g of fiber, and most of the others do meet our requirements, with 3-4g of fiber each. I will definitely be sticking with the regular multi-grain since those are the ONLY ones with Stone ground WW flour as the first ingredient. Every other one, including the Carbdown, are made with enriched flour.

I just checked the ingredients for the multi-grain, and I see that they contain brown sugar. Are these still ok?

Thank you! I guess I am being VERY cautious in phase two.
