My first cheat :-(

Okay - my dad is in town visiting (he only comes 1-2 times a year) He watched the kids last night so dh and I could go out to dinner - we have not eaten out since starting SBD 11 weeks ago. We have not been a "date" without the kids in probably 18 months (yep 1.5 years! We have NO family/friends in the area so no one to leave the kids with, and their grandparents only visit 1-2 times a year, so yeah, no dates for us!) I haven't have anything "illegal" in 11 weeks (yes, maybe I had a little too much nuts one day, or maybe went 5 calories over on my sweet treats, but nothing TOTALLY off plan) So after much debate, dh and I decided to indulge in desert. BIG, BIG mistake I guess!

We did great with dinner - we ordered SBD friendly appetizers and entrees. We went to the Cheesecake Factory, as we both LOVE cheesecake and decided that if we splurged that was what we both wanted. So we split a piece after dinner. I guess I viewed it as kind of okay really - I've read many times that on SBD you CAN have an occasional indulgence then just "hop" back on the diet. So I figured this was our first night out in forever, a special occasion, we've been so good otherwise, etc. So it was kind of an "allowed" cheat, ya know?

I got SO sick - I mean REALLY sick from that half piece of cheesecake! It happened about 20 min after eating. I kept having dh pull over on the way home as I thought I was going to throw up (I didn't though). It was awful - I couldn't sleep all night, I felt like I had a brick in my stomach. Then this morning I STILL feel icky - VERY bloated. I had trouble eating breakfast as I still feel "full" from last night. I don't think it was anything else I ate (salad, grilled chicken w/balsamic vinegrette, peppers, onions, broccoli) and I don't think it was food poisoning or anything because it came on only 20 min after eating and it was THAT bad (didn't even really throw up)

*sigh* I guess I learned my lesson. But I am bummed that apparently my body can't handle EVER having a treat like that now? Or was it a fluke? Not that I will be trying it again any time soon!

On the happy side - I am now officially halfway to my goal weight! 23 lbs down - 23 to go. And I am comfortably in a size 12 now (well, not so comfortable this morning as I am REALLY bloated!) I had dh take a pic of my last to mark halfway - I compared it this morning it pic of me pre-SBD and its actually quite a difference! I will try and post them later!

Hi MichaelAnn,

We have all learned that lesson the hard way.

Hi MichaelAnn,

Yes, I've had that exact thing happen!

Yup, me too, same here............

Went to parents this past Sunday, to celebrate my b-day and my daughters. Even though I asked my mother not to make a cake, she went ahead and made a sheet cake, chocolate fudge with chocolate frosting, my favorite. (grumbles)

Well, after dinner, I went ahead and had a piece, and yeah, about 20 minutes later, YUCK, I wasn't actually nauseous, but definitely bloated and yucky and belchy.....etc.

I have actually been doing Phase 1 again for a few days to get myself back to "normal". I had a headache all day Monday, and am now feeling much better.

I definitely won't be doing that again anytime soon.

I have had this happen too.

The good news is (not to encourage cheating!) that you may find this doesn't happen with ALL non-SBD unfriendly foods. I have lots of trouble with sugar or foods that are super rich, but I do enjoy occasionally eating pasta or bread and do not suffer any adverse effects.

I indulged in a few bites of a lemon cake my DS made for a birthday party and after about 15 - 20 minutes I felt lightheaded and icky. I drank some water and it passed fairly quickly, but I was amazed at the effect detoxing your body of sugar would have.
