Guess it worked!

Well I was stuck at the same weight for a couple weeks, and a little over a week ago I asked for suggestions about adding another serving of grains/fruit or maybe more protein or dairy since I have really upped my workouts. I was starting to feel tired and sluggish in the afternoons and I thought maybe I wasn't getting enough calories (even thought it felt like I was eating a lot!) to compensate for my new workout schedule.
Well I did add another grain/fruit (up to 3, not 3 of both on all days, some days 2 fruit/3grain, some days 3 fruit/2 grain, depending on what I feel like) and I made sure to add a 3rd cup of dairy whenever I could.
IT WORKED! I lost 1 lbs in the first 2 days after adding more food, then another 2 this last week - so 3lbs in the last 10 days! I really think my body did need more calories!
Its funny, about 2 weeks ago dh and I were watching a weight loss show on Discovery Channel, following a woman through her weight loss journey. At one point she was doing REALLY intense workouts and not eating much at all. She stalled for a LONG time - and I was yelling at the TV "You need to EAT more! Your body is in starvation mode!" She finally went to a nutritionist, he told her the same thing, and once she started eating more she started losing again. And here I fell into the same trap without realizing it! And my body really was trying to tell me with the lightheaded/dizzy thing in the afternoons. Guess I need to listen to it better!
Thanks for the great advise as usual everyone!

WOOHOO! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
I think I need to take your advice and eat more. I find that I really don't eat that much in general. I haven't been dragging (my workouts aren't THAT intense, I'm just trying to get into the habit in general before I make them too tough), but I wonder sometimes if that's why I lose weight so slowly on SBD. I think, though, since I've been really good about exercise for the past week, that it's helped some. Maybe the number on the scale hasn't changed, but my "love handles" have reduced significantly in the past week/week and a half. I honestly have no idea what my weight is because I switched to a digital scale (that bumped my weight up) midstream and because I don't weigh in too often due to my slow weight loss (too discouraging).
I can't wait to see your weight keep going down, esp. since you started around me, and we have the same goal weight. I was wondering how tall you are... I am 5'7". It seems to me like the low 150s are impossible to get to, even though my goal is 135!
Congratulations, and good luck with your progress. Thanks for sharing!

PS - LOL about the Discovery Channel thing... that's the kind of thing I do, talk to the TV ;)

MichaelAnn,
Congratulations on breaking through that stall and feeling better.
Hi yoyo,
Eating too little means not working up to your 3 fruit and
Thanks Becca - I'm actually quite a bit shorter than you - I'm only 5'3". Most people my height have goal weights in the 120s LOL! So you are actually already much closer to a healthy weight where you are than I am! I just know my body, I have a big frame, very curvy, etc. so I'm happy with 135- I'll probably by about a size 8 and I will be with in the "healthy" range for my height (barely - my BMI at 135 will be about 23.5 - but I started out in the "obese" category, so I will be happy with "healthy"!)
That's probably why its going slowly for you. The closer I get to the healthy range the slower it seems to go.
You'll make it even if it takes some patience, you WILL get there!!
Good luck!

I think everyone is different - so its hard to say what is too little or too much for someone. But from what I hear eating too little is the most common trap dieters fall into. I know SBD doesn't count calories, but for me I went ahead and kept track of an average day's meals, added up my calories, figured out my BMR, plus my calories burned from excercise and came to the conclusion that I was definitely not eating enough. I was burning about 2600 calories a day but only eating about 1400. So by adding another grain and more diary that brings me up to closer to 1600. This is still 1000 less I burn (which means about 2lbs a week loss in theory) But I've heard if you eat more than 1000 less than you burn your body can go into starvation mode.
Also I mainly went by how I felt. My body was literally *screaming* at me for more nourishment. I was feeling ill in the afternoons, lightheaded, dizzy, couldn't focus, headache, etc. I did already eat til I was full at meals. I haven't really increased my meals, just added a little more to my snacks. The day I added more food the symptoms stopped.
As far as the workouts go, yours sound way more intense than mine...but it was mainly that I *increased* my workouts, without increasing my calories, and that seemed to cause a problem. I was doing 45 min cardio on 5 days a week. I upped it to 45 min cardio AND 20-30 min strenghth training on 6 days per week.
I don't know if that helped any - but my best advise is for people not to be afraid to add in the good grains/starches and fruits. Some people are afraid to add more as they think the less grains/starches they have the faster they will lose, but its just not the case.
