I know you probably have been asked this several times, but I am just not grasping the carb competitor concept.  Do I need to have one with my cereal in the morning?  or my yougurt at snack time?  Here's my menu for today:

B - kashi, milk, coffee

S- FF plain yogurt

L-turkey salad on greens

S- apple w/ p-butter

D- Roast w/ fauxtatoes & greenbeens

S- sf jello w/coolwhip

I am on day 3 of P2 and I don't want to screw things up because I feel I did well on P1.  Thanks and I appreciate your input.

Hi Andrea,

I usually don't have a carb competitor with my cereal.

I was actually going to ask about taking pysllium or flax seeds - are either of those acceptable in lieu of the metamucil or citrucel?

Flax seeds are under the nuts/seeds category. 3 tablespoons of flax seeds equals one serving. You are allowed one servings of nuts/seeds per day.

I'm not sure that they have the same effect as the metamucil.

Cathy,

Is flax seed considered a carb competitor? I add ground flax to my yogurt. Also can you take flax oil? That works as an anti constipation as well.

Aimee,

Yes, flax seeds would act as a carb competitor just the same way that nuts qualify.

Andrea,

Did you see Cathy's response to my question above? Try taking 2T daily of flaxseed, ground, and see if that helps with the constipation. If not try the oil. I used to give the oil to my DD to help with her constipation and it kept things moving pretty well. I grind my flax seed in a coffee grinder or you can use a hand mill.
