I was just wondering what kind of SF maple syrups are good and if there is any thing I need to look for when chosing it. This counts toward our sweet treats calories, right?

Thanks!!

Hi Terri,

One of the things to look for with choosing a SF maple syrup is the sugar alcohol content.

Definitely try a couple different brands - almost all the major brands have a sugar-free version now - Log Cabin, Mrs. Buttersworth, etc.

I find that they are all VERY different in their flavor. For example, the Cozy Cottage one is very maple-ish (I wouldn't say it tastes like REAL maple, but you can tell that is the flavor they are trying for!) Its actually rather a strong (fake) maple flavor to me. I like it for pancakes, waffles, etc. But I like the Mrs Buttersworth one for baking with (I use in place of honey or brown sugar in recipes) It has a more *neutral* flavor, not really maple - jsut like a generically sweet, sticky substance. I don't know if that makes sense!

But the Cozy Cottage as quite a bit less calories than some of the other brands, so that is another thing to consider. It has 25 cal per 1/4 cup - most others have 35-40 cal per 1/4 cup.

So try a few to see what you like!

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I have to go to the store tomorrow and I'll see what's available and go from there. I'm anxious to try the WW pancake recipe that I found on here earlier.

I use the Maple Groves pancake syrup, but I miss the real maple syrup. I haven't used pancake syrup in years - and I think the taste of real maple syrup is so much better. But . . .I'm getting used to it, and occassionally I'll still have 1 tablespoon of the real thing

I tried quite a few and they all taste nasty....but the least nastiest is definitely Cozy Cottage.
