Phase II, Day 10

i'm not happy today -- i'm up a pound. can i give you yesterday's food to analyze?

breakfast: wheaties w/ 1% milk
snack: hardboiled egg
lunch: 2.5 ounces 2% cheddar on huge salad
snack: yogurt (ff, plain) with blueberries
dinner: pulled pork on whole wheat tortilla
dessert yogurt w/ almond extract

so i'm having two grains, 1 fruit and 3 dairy-- and i've gained. also, i've only lost 6lbs to date. (i did the usual 2 wk. phase I.)

what am i doing wrong? will i really lose weight on this diet? i'm never hungry, which is great, but then i'm feeling like then i'm eating too much.

any advice?

I'm not an expert at this by all means - but one thing that jumped out at me is I don't see a lot of veggies? I know it says "huge" salad for lunch - but was it 4.5 cups worth of veggies in one salad? I notice I really do lose best the weeks that I am DILIGENT in getting at least my 4.5 cups of veggies a day (or more!)
Other than that, I will go up a pound here and there for a day for no real "reason" (water retention - but it could be sore muscles, TOM, salty foods, not enough water the day before - or sometimes I swear its just random!) So I wouldn't worry too much about the 1lb gain yet - I'd give it a couple days, drink lots of water, etc.
It doesn't seem to me like you are eating too much - I generally eat more than that!
Hopefully the cl's will have more info for you, but I just thought I'd suggest more veggies!

Hi Karen, a couple of thoughts.....

Wheaties isn't a good SBD choice for cereal.

Karen, I went back through the history of your posts to see more and get more clues about this....

thanks so much for your help. i appreciate your looking into my past posts! yes, i think the ff plain yogurt is great -- i put in blueberries or raspberries with equal or if i've already had a fruit, i add in almond extract or pure vanilla extract with equal.

my salads i actually measure to get the 4.5 cups in. i could try to eat salad or vegetables twice a day and see if that helps.

i'm glad i put down what i eat --just looked up the wheaties -- it's 4g sugar and 3g fiber. so i'll go through the list and make better choices.

it's true that 6 lbs. is a good loss -- i don't know what i expect. the big advantage of this diet for me is that i don't have the bingeing i had before with pms -- that would undo whatever good i had done the three previous weeks.

so thank you again for your help.

Sounds like we're in about the same spot. I'm on day 12 of Phase II. I lost 4 lbs. on Phase I, and then was up 3.5 pounds at the end of my first week of phase II. I did feel bloated, but still shocked that I was just about where I started after 3 weeks of this way of eating. Even though I'd read several posts from others with the same problem, and then saw where they'd lost the weight in their second week, it didn't matter, I still thought maybe I wasn't going to lose weight on this. I'd been doing Atkins and was on a plateau for 6 months, so I was thinking maybe I *was* going to gain the weight back if I added grains and fruit.

Maggie suggested I take Metamucil before meals, like she suggested to you. I started doing that Tuesday morning, and I've lost 5 lbs. since Monday, so net-net I'm down 5.5 for the 3 1/2 weeks, and I'm feeling good about my week 4 weigh-in on Monday morning.

6 lbs really is a great weight loss. Everybody is different - age plays into it, activity level, water retention - all kinds of things. I try to remind myself that I didn't put all this weight on in a matter of weeks, so I can't expect to take it off that quickly either.

Try more veggies, or at least spreading them out more evenly in your day, and definitely get the Metamucil.

Good luck!
