Instant Brown Rice???
| Wed, 05-18-2005 - 9:55am |
Is instant brown rice okay? That's what I've been eating, in fact, just had some with ff milk for breakfast instead of oatmeal. I got to thinking last night though that I didn't know for sure if it was ok or if I should be buying the regular kind.
Thanks.

Hi Christy,
Here's the answer from the official nutritionist:
The whole grain brown rice that is slow cooking is the best choice. However, the instant whole grain brown rice can be used. Both may be used for phase 2. The serving size is 1/2 cooked. Please monitor for any craving :)
Whoo, that's a relief. Thanks Cathy.

Cristy, is there a reason that you don't use the slow-cooking kind?
I just wanted to add...

In reference to that, have any suggestions for the best kind of brown rice? I haven't eaten rice in awhile and hoping to include it, but I want to be sure of what to buy. Took a look at the Uncle Ben's brand and I don't know if I should buy it. What should I be looking for?
Thanks :)
Hi Wes,
Uncle Ben's makes a lot of different rice products, many of which are too processed.
I would definately get the brown rice from the bag. Not in such a hurry for instant rice, lol! I would have to get a smaller bag since my family doesn't do SB at all! Want to know what they had for dinner tonight? Fried chicken legs and yellow rice with beans!
I'm SBDing all by my lonesome. I've been on SBD long enought to not crave the foods they eat and go for the heathier stuff. I have been trying to get them onto it - especially my father since he is at risk for diabetes, but old Latino men are incredibly stubborn!
Sorry for the tangent! Guess I'm really talkative tonight.
This is the brand of brown rice that I use and love!
Hmmmmm, I'll have to look and see if we have that brand
Thanks for all the info. I'll defenitely start doing the slow cook rice. I just have to plan ahead a little better. That's generally why I've always done instant rice with my meals. I just switched from white to brown but what you said about the nutrients makes sense. I guess I'll just need to make more at a time for future meals if scheduling gets to be an issue.
