This isn't the best choice.

I find this very interesting, considering SBD makes bars containing added protein and highly processed fiber, and they are okay.

"Although this does meet our requirements for fiber this product has added fiber and protein to lower the carbohydrate content.
There are two main reasons why the added fiber and protein 'low carb' products are not the most desirable for our members.
One is the added fiber used to make 'low carb' products is usually highly processed cottonseed, oat, or soy fiber."

I wonder if the nutritionists would reccomend their own bars if you sent just the list of ingredients. I find this hipocrisy so annoying. I do enjoy a SBD meal replacement bar from time to time, so maybe I am a hipocrite, too, but to say 'anything with these certain ingredients is sub par, aside from OUR PRODUCTS' is just rediculous.

SBD has completely changed my life, but I fear its true benefits are falling into the moneybags of commercialization. ::: SIGH ::: I have ranted about this before, so I will shut my yap...;)

Cathy,

With the soy and oat fiber that the nutritionists' comment refers to being the 5th and 6th ingredients on the list of this bread's ingredients, I'm thinking that fact makes a difference?

I personally wouldn't eat this bread.

I have had a very hard time finding a bread that meets the SBD guidelines. I found Sara Lee yesterday at Krogers but it wasn't the one that was talked about here on the board. I have found a couple of brands that are 100% whole wheat and are made with whole wheat flour but only have 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of sugar. The ones that I have found that had enough fiber had too many sugar grams. The two that I have been eating are Southern Country and Natures's Own. I decided that no more bread than I am eating that hopefully this won't be a big deal. I only eat a slice every now and then. I keep it in the freezer and take it out when I need it.

Pam,

I don't know if you have Aunt Millie's brand of bread where you are, but there is one called Fiber for LIfe Rolled Oats & Whole Grain. I posted a note earlier today (5/27) about this particular variety, and one of the cl's (it may have been maggie_kelly) said it sounded fine, and would count as 1.5 grain servings based on the 44g/slice serving size. Just thought this might give you another bread option.

"Bread Guideline – Made of 100% whole-grain and contains 3 grams of fiber or more per slice (or one-ounce serving). Check labels closely and always choose according to the guidelines."

I'm really confused now. NOWHERE in the Bread Guidelines does it say that we have to read EVERY ingredient in the list. It only says that the bread has to be made of 100% WW and have 3g of fiber or more per serving.........that's the ONLY thing I have ever looked for when buying bread. I have never seen a list of things we CANNOT have in our bread.

I personally use the Pepperidge Farm Naturals Crunchy Grain bread, but I really don't see anything wrong with the bread Maggie talked about. In fact, a sandwich with two slices of bread would be 6 grams of fiber and be considered only 2 bread servings!!

Yes, it can be very confusing.
