Barilla has come out with an "Enriched Multigrain Pasta" that I'm curious about. It isn't whole wheat, like other brands, but here's the scoop:

Ingredients: semolina, grain and legume flour blend (lentils, chick peas, oats, spelt, barley, egg whites, ground flaxseeds and wheat fiber), niacin, ferrous lactate (iron), thiamine, mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid.

Here is a previous thread about this pasta:

The official response from the nutritionalist was:

Pasta can be added to your diet in phase 2. This sounds like a pasta geared towards high protein , low carb diets. Remember that the SBD is not low carb. The best choice would be whole wheat, second best choice would be soy pasta. A pasta such as this would be third best choice.

-Beth/SBD Nutritionist

But there was some disagreement from others that it may not be as a bad a choice as the nutritionalists say. We've used it because they have lots of different shapes I can't find in the plain whole wheat pasta that my kids like (like elbow macaroni)

It's not approved for South Beach Diet.

But personally, I think it's a very healthy, very nutritious choice.

I agree-- this pasta is so healthy and so yummy. We use it occasionally and I think it's a great choice. But, like Maggie said, since SBD doesn't officially "approve" of this pasta, eating it would be a personal choice for you.
