Someone was kind enough to buy me some South Beach Diet High Protein Cereal Bars. I happily ate a couple w/o really looking at the ingredients. Here are some stats:

Total Carb - 15g
Fiber - 3g
Sugars - 7g
Protein - 10g

First few ingedients are:
soy nuggets (soy protein isolate, tapioca, starch, salt), maltitol syrup, SUGAR, CORN SYRUP, roasted soybeans.......

I thought that since they were labeled SB, they were safe but now I'm not sure. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help!

Hi,

There has been lots of discussion here about the new Kraft/South Beach products and how dissapointed we all are that Dr. A has sold out.

I saw that these were on sale this week at one of my local grocery stores, so I checked out the box. While there is info about them fitting into the SBD, there isn't anything that mentions what phase they would fit into, nor anything about occasional convenience use. Like you, I wasn't impressed by the ingredient list (so I passed on buying them). There is something about how they compare to other cereal bars, though, as well as something about them having been called Post Carb Well previously (if I read that part of the box correctly). I hadn't really thought about it too much, but I'm thinking that others have a good perception on Dr. A. having sold out SBD to the marketing industry.

Be sure that the box looks like this:

Phase 2 and 3

There are other bars out there that use the name "South Beach" on them, but they are not approved.

Another take:

I brought a box of these along on my latest trip because they fit into my purse so nicely. They're the first of the SB/Kraft products that I've tried, and I was actually very happy with them. They saved me from several ill-advised trips to the snack table for cookies or other danger-foods, plus they were great for the six-hour trip out there. It's probably the protein in them, but I found that they were an excellent portable snack that satisfied for an entire afternoon (to the point where I was sitting NEXT to the cookies, lol, and never reached for one!)

I'm planning to start keeping a box in my desk at work as one of my staple snacks.

Also, it is very fine print, but under the nutrition label there is a note that they are recommended for Phases 2 & 3 (I can't remember whether it says occasional or not, I'll look when I pick up a box later today).
