Everyone recovering from the long weekend?? I'm sad its over, went too fast. It was nice to have dh home that extra day.
We got our new fridge yesterday and I am REALLY enjoying it! I can't believe how much more room it has! And having cold water whenever I want it is really nice!
Today is going to be a crazy day. My dd has her last dance class of the year tonight til 7, then I have to run home, eat and go back to her dance studio for a Group Mom meeting at 8:30! We are having leftovers, but it doesn't give me much time to get home and eat.

Today
breakfast - breakfast burrito, yogurt
snack - soy milk shake w/banana, string cheese
lunch - turkey sandwhich wrap on flat bread, roasted veggies
snack - apple wtih peanut butter
dinner - left over minestrone soup, leftover Garlic parmesan chicken, salad
desert - ? not sure, I will be at the meeting til about 9:30-10, so maybe none

Hello all!

Still recovering from the weekend...but it was worth it ;-)

Today's menu:

B: 4 oz yogurt, tea
S: Banana & peanuts
L: Lime Avocado "Chicken" Salad
S: SB bar
D: "Chicken" Caesar Salad Lettuce Wraps (I've discovered that I just love those Smart Menu meatless unbreaded soy "chicken" strips, lol)
De: Jello (?)

BTW, both lunch and dinner are recipes from Rachael Ray's new "30-Minute Get-Real Meals" cookbook, which features her higher-protein, lower-carb recipes. Some really great ideas in there for salads and dishes that use pasta as a minor side instead of a major meal. I recommend it for anyone who is learning to adapt regular recipes to SB Phase 2, most that I've seen so far only require some whole-grain substitutions for unspecified pasta/bread types.

Hey
I've been hanging around this board... I've posted a few times, but I figure since I'm here almost every day, I might as well start posting more regularly since, well, let's be honest-- it's FUN!
OK so I'm gonna do a little intro here.
My name is Claudia I'm 20 years old.
I live in Toronto, Canada. I'm working a desk job for the summer, and taking a night class, so my summer is looking VERY busy.
I work from 9-5 and then have class from 6-9pm. I'm hardly ever home, which leaves very little time for exercise (except on the weekends, which I try to do all the time) and planning my meals can be tough, since I'm out all day.
I was actually wondering if you guys have any suggestions for me?
I usually eat breakfast at home around 8am. Then head off to work. I pack my snacks and my lunch, but I find that if I pack my dinner, by the time I get to eat it, it's all gross, so I usually eat dinner around 9:30 when I get home. This leaves a pretty big timeframe where I don't eat anything. I was thinking of going to a health smoothie bar and getting a smoothie everyday at around 5:30. (They're great, cause you can go and ask them to use whatever ingredients you want... ff yogurt, whatever fruit you want, etc.) The problem is that the smoothies are over $5 each, so as a student, I really can't have these everyday.
Is there something else that you can think of that maybe I can have instead? just to tide me over till dinner? It also has to be quick, cause I have to get from work to class, which doesn't leave me a lot of time for anything. :S
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Food Diary:
B: All bran cereal with 1% milk. V8
S: cucumbers and 1/2 cup cottage cheese
L: Turkey and chicken patties (2 small ones) and salad
S: Pistachios
S:??
D: Not sure... I usually eat whatever my family ate for dinner. They're all pretty healthy so it works well.

Hi Claudia, and welcome!

Some suggestions for you that serve me well when working late/delaying dinner...

Add another snack into your afternoon routine so that you're keeping an even amount of time between "feedings". The smoothie thing is a good idea, I'd say go for it on the days you have the cash, since you can control what goes into it...and on the other days, pack an extra bag of nuts, or a hard-boiled egg, anything at all from your usual snack list. I personally like the SBD bars (although I know others don't), and keep a box at work for emergencies.

Bring your planned dessert along and eat that while you're on the go, and save dinner until you get home! A lot of desserts keep better than dinners, especially if they don't need reheating...plus, it's a nice pick-me-up to get you through the last of a long day (The FF/SF pudding, PB yogurt, and ricotta cremes work well if you have a fridge available)

Check out www.foodnetwork.com for brown-bag lunch ideas to keep it from getting boring (Sara's Secrets just did a whole episode on these, and others have as well). Some you'll need to modify, others are ready to use.

A tip if you're packing salads, especially for dinner...keep your greens base, your toppings, and your dressing in seperate containers until you're ready to eat, they'll stay crisper that way (there are some salad bowls that have a dressing squirter in the lid, then you only need one more container for the veggies, and a baggie for the soynuts or other crunchies). It's more containers to wash, but worth it, IMO. I also bought some microwavable divided Tupperware dinner plates to keep entrees and sides from mushing together, they're a good investment for anyone who packs a lot of meals!

I hope these help!

Shan

Hi Everyone!

I had a great weekend-- went to visit my sister-- but I overindulged WAY too much (fajitas, goat cheese pizza, calamari, migas, margaritas... you get the idea!) so I'm going to do P1 for 2-3 days. Hopefully that will detox me from the yummy, but horribly indulgent, weekend!

B: Scoop of cottage cheese, handful of peanuts
S: Turkey and swiss cheese wrap
L: Black beans with a tiny bit of LF cheese and sour cream, V-8, yogurt
S: Milk "shake", Red bell pepper and hummus, edamame
D: Sauteed shrimp, asparagus, salad with BV dressing
Dessert: SF fudge bar

Have a great day, Everyone!

I had a great weekend. Having that extra day always seems to make the difference between just getting things done and really enjoying myself. I took the kids to the bookstore yesterday and bought every Nicholas Sparks (author of The Notebook) book I could find, since I had time to actually finish the one I was reading (Message in a Bottle) between Saturday and Sunday. A trip to the bookstore is a real treat for me, since it's something I never seem to make time for.

Weekend was good food-wise as well. I've decided to stop getting on the scale every day, since it was stressing me out, so I don't know what I'm weighing, but I'm on plan, so I'm not going to worry about it.

B - fruit smoothie, oatmeal
S - lite cream cheese
L - big salad with romaine, kidney beans, crab meat, celery, sunflower seeds, BV
S - none
D - probably a Subway wrap - it's gymnastics night for the kids. We get home late, so we go to dinner between work and class.
S - chocolate cheesecake (recipe I found on this site - pretty good)

Have a great day!
