Here is a list of the "legal" items from Taco Bell:

TACO BELL®

Salads:

  • Fiesta Taco Salad™ - Order "Fresco Style" and upgrade to grilled chicken. Request the following ingredients left off the salad — beans, citrus salsa, and sour cream. Remember not to eat the shell!
  • Taco Salad Express - Order "Fresco Style" and upgrade to grilled chicken. Request that the sour cream, beans, and chips be left off the salad.

Bowls:

Zesty Chicken Border Bowl® - Order "Fresco Style." Request that the following ingredients be left off — beans and rice. Use about half the zesty dressing that comes with the salad as your fat serving for the meal.

A Taco Bell Bean Burrito is made on a white flour tortilla (a no on SBD), plus their refried beans are high in fat. And it will have full fat cheese on it, not reduced fat. :-( So unfortunately its not a great choice. I make yummy bean burritos as home with fat-free refried beans, non-fat cheddar cheese, a little salsa and sour cream, and on a whole wheat tortilla.

In addition to the link provided with all the fast food items that are allowed, I go to the Taco Bell website and check out the nutrition info. You can select an item, then customize it, and the system will tell you all the calorie, fat, etc info. I haven't found any ingredient info yet, but the fat and sugar info is a good guideline.

One hint for selecting items -- if you select regular style, you can customize; for some reason the customize doesn't seem to work on the fresco items. I used to get the bean burrito, but now I get chicken tacos, and have them leave the shell off. (I keep the cheese even though it's not LF because there's so little of it.)

Thanks all. I've eaten it by scraping out the beans and leaving the tortilla but I really wanted the tortilla (but not as much as I want to get out of size 16 clothes).

I make bean burritos exactly the way that MichaelAnn described -- whole wheat tortillas, fat free refried beans, salsa, etc.
