Getting on that wagon and a question

I dont know what the heck happend, so I'm not even going to get into it. I can't spend anymore time beating myself up. I got lazy and stopped planning and it all went down hill.

So, I'm trying to plan again. I'm on P2, so I'll go from here. I'd like to start eating oatmeal for b'fast. Here's where my question is. If I follow the SBD meal plan, Im supposed to eat protein for b'fast. What do you eat as your protein if you have oatmeal? Do I need to have cheese or something with it? Same thing applies to cereal. I love my morning cereal too.

Thanks. I feel better already that I'm coming back to the beach. Norma :O)

(ps. i posted this in SBD for life accidentally, so sorry if you are reading it twice!)

Hi Norma,

If you're having oatmeal or cereal in the morning you can add 2 slices of turkey bacon or a tablespoon of peanut butter in your oatmeal would count as a protein.

You don't have to eat protein for bfast. I'm not sure where you're getting this from. As far as SBD, you really want to eat any of your carbs in the morning so you have longer to burn them off during the day.

If you fell off the wagon, why don't you start over at phase 1 as the plan recommends? Just give yourself a do-over. Restart!

Good luck.

Interesting - I'd never read that about having your carbs in the morning. Is that mentioned in the book? I usually have one in the morning, one for a snack, and if I have a third one, it's with dinner. If I had all my carbs in the morning, I think I'd be down the rest of the day because I wouldn't have them to look forward to later! :>

The SBD book has some recommended meal combinations, and it does say to include some protein with breakfast, but it's just a suggestion. However, it is beneficial to have a carb competitor with a bowl of oatmeal, which could be protein, fat, fiber, or one other thing that I can't remember off of the top of my head.

Lora,

It doesn't matter what time of day you eat your proteins or carbs. What matters most is that you eat from the Foods to Enjoy list and that you eat the recommended amounts.

I'm going by the book and the website. It does say to include protein in the am. I've never heard having all your carbs at one meal either. But hey, whatever works! I dont want to go back to P1 because everything I've read suggests the opposite.

Yep - you go back to phase I if you're having cravings, but if you either aren't having cravings or are confident you can deal with them, you are fine to start with phase II. Good luck!

I don't know if it's a hard and fast rule, but personally I do need to have something with my oatmeal or it gives me cravings. However, if that happens, I just counteract it by having a mid-morning hard boiled egg or handful of nuts for a snack, as opposed to cucumbers or celery. Then I have lunch an hour later and the rest of the day is fine.

My favorite way to have oatmeal is with a spoonful of crunchy natural peanut butter mixed in, plus a splash of milk. I used to add a packet of Splenda until one morning in my foggy state I forgot to add it. I didn't even realize it was missing until I was halfway through the bowl, so at that point I realized I didn't need it. LOL.
