Veggie bloat?

The weirdest thing happened to me yesterday. Here was my menu:

B: soy milk, hb egg, two soy sausage patties, coffee
L: cottage cheese w/two tomatoes, two peaches
S: carrots, broccoli w/hummus (I'd guess about 3 cups total of the veggies), apple
D: yogurt w/blueberries, spinach salad

workout: spinning class, yoga, pilates

My menu was a bit different from normal . . . my lunch was on the small side so I got starving, but think I did pretty well eating a bigger snack, but sticking to healthy options. I had four fruits, but not grains. Anyhow, after the afternoon veggie/fruit overload my stomach got all crampy and I was in pain all evening. I have no idea what caused this. The only notable difference was that I had more raw veggies than normal. Additionally, while yesterday I weighed 126, which is normal, today I was up two pounds. I don't think anything I ate should have caused such a drastic weight gain. What happened??

Okay - this is just MY experience - but raw veggies and I do NOT mix. I get seriously bloated, crampy, gassy (more info than you may have needed!) I'll never forget one time I ate some almost raw broccoli (it was from a restaurant and supposed to be steamed, but it was barely cooked, really crisp) I felt sick for 2 days. And yes, when I get this my weight goes up. Not sure why. I would get the same way when I used to try and take Metimucil - really crampy and bloated and my weight would go up.
I'm not sure of any reasons *why*, just wanted to say its happened to me too!

Michael Ann,

I feel much better after your post! I'm sure this is what happened to me. And yes, I'm still a bit crampy and gassy. It's awful! So much for being healthy and eating lots of veggies. I normally have some raw veggies, but yesterday I had a lot more than usual and I think it just killed me. I'm cutting back a bit today and hopefully will feel better tomorrow.

Thanks,
V

Your welcome - I still try and eat a lot of veggies - but I just have to have cooked ones. As long as they are cooked I have no problems. Hope you feel better soon.
