Product Survey - butter and maple syrup.

The discussion regarding the waffles got me to thinking about what to put on top of them? Personally, I am not a huge fan of face maple syrup or fake butte, which is what I like to have on my waffles. BTW - I LOVE the GOLEAN Kashi waffles and I have been eating them long before I began SBD. I actually prefer them over Aunt Jemima's. As a matter of fact, I have a box in my freezer that I haven't opened yet because I'm not sure what to get to put on them.

Therefore, I would appreciate it if everyone would give me their opinion on the best butter and maple syrup alternatives.

I've also thought about having it with pureed fruit with splenda, but I hate the thought of having that much concentrated fruit in the morning!

Hummm...I'm not sure. I do like the sugar-free maple syrups and the "fake" butter, so that is what I put on top of mine. What about some sugar-free jam? Or for the plain ones you could spread some peanut butter on it (don't think that would be good on the blueberry though!) My kids like them with BOTH peanut butter and jelly on them! A yogurt sauce made with berries could be good too, we make one with stawberries, spenda, yogurt and a little lemon juice that I put on ricotta crepes or buckwheat pancakes. I generally have one of my 3 fruit servings with breakfast - its never been a problem for me.
Let us know if you come up with any exciting ideas!

I would be willing to try your favorite butter and/or maple syrup, if you don't mind passing it along. I just don't know what type tastes the best and I don't want to spend alot of money finding out! Its just that some of the maple syrups, especially, have an after taste. While some of the healthier fake butters taste like I just poured olive oil on my toast!

Maybe I have ust tried the wrong ones?????

I think its just a personal thing. You have probably tried the brands we use - I like Smart Balance or the Fleshmen's Olive Oil Spread. I don't really think they taste much different from butter.
For sugar-free syrup I like the Mrs Butterworth's Sugar-Free or the Cozy Cottage brand. I think I'm just really used to the artificial sweetener taste by now that it doesn't bother me. My dd had some real syrup on her pancakes at a restaurant the other day and I licked a bit off my finger...I almost gagged it was so sweet! So I think I've just grown used to the alternatives!

I love my waffles with just butter/margarine on them, but I really love them with Brummel and Brown's blueberry margarine on them even more! B & B is a trans fat free margarine I have been eating for years, and they also have blueberry, apple/cinnamon/ and strawberry.

Is peanut butter okay on them? I love pb on my waffles! I was thinking of getting the Kashi waffles (If I can ever find them!) and putting pb and sugar free syrup on them. I use all natural pb, so there is no added anything in it. It's just peanuts and tiny bit of salt.

I was going to suggest peanut butter! That is my favorite thing on waffles. Sometimes I add a smidge of fruit spread, too. You could also do peanut butter w/ sliced fruit such as strawberries.

Or, take some frozen berries and let them thaw. Mix a bit of splenda in with them for a lovely non-concentrated fruit topping. I like blueberries because they are sweet. DH loves raspberries, but I find them too sour even with the Splenda. By the way, thawed frozen fruit is also very good in yogurt.

I don't use any "fake" butters or maple syrups, so I can't help ya there. :)

Thank you to everyone for all of the suggestions. I honestly never would have thought to put PB on them! I also purchased the brummel and brown to try.....

Be careful with the Brummel & Brown spread.
