Hooray!  Another good/healthy South Beach approved pretzel!  I just got the word on the official South Beach Diet website that Uncle Henry's PA Dutch whole wheat pretzels are a good choice for Phase 2.

Here is the question I posted, followed by the answer:

I spotted a pretzel product that I believe (and hope) will pass approval for South Beach! They are Uncle Henry's PA Dutch handmade whole wheat pretzels. Uncle Henry's makes some of their pretzel varieties with refined wheat, but makes three varieties of whole wheat flour: salted, low salt, and sesame seed. Here are the nutritional facts, including the serving size and ingredient list. Note that they contain 3g fiber per 22g serving (one pretzel). This is well within the guideline of 3g fiber per one ounce/30gram grain serving. Nutritionists: Thank you for your opinion on these! NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION (salted variety)- Serving Size: 22g (approx 1 pretzel) Calories: 80 Calories From Fat: 0 Total Fat: 0g Saturated Fat: 0g Cholesterol: 0mg Sodium: 260mg Total Carbohyrdrates: 18g Dietary Fiber: 3g Sugars: 0g Protein: 2g Ingredients: whole wheat flour, water, sourdough, vegetable fiber, yeast, salt and soda. Note: sourdough is made from whole wheat flour. The link to this pretzel: http://www.unclehenry.com/store/product.asp?dept%5Fid=7&pf%5Fid=7003&mscssid=3KQEB5V2V93E8NFP1N72X29DE74H0KAE

You are right to think that this pretzel is OK for phase 2 of the diet. Enjoy but don't over indulge!

That is good news! Everytime I give my daughter some pretzels, I think that I should post here and find out if there are any pretzels allowed, but telling myself, of course there aren't. Although admittedly I've found triscuits to be a fairly good substitution (for me) for pretzels, I may have to locate some of the approved pretzels for when I really want them.

"Now where do you find these, near the deli?"

Susan, I haven't found any of these in a store, yet.

My local market sells the Paul Newman pretzels - they're just in a display near other chips/pretzels.

If you can't find any of these brands, ask your supermarket manager if he/she can order them.
