Need a little encouragement!

Hi All,

Started Phase 1 again (I have been off and on SBD for I guess the last 6 months). The most I have lost is 12 pounds and then I mess up. This is my second week (lost 7 lbs) and I am committed to keep it up and not fall off the wagon. Looking back (I keep track of my weight on my calendar at work) I always loose the initial 7 -10 pounds and then struggle to loose after that. I am 44 - I try to exercise as much as I can (I bicycle to work 2 miles as much as I can) and use the treadmill - but not as consistently as I should. So I am working on doing more exercise. I am wondering if the reason I am not loosing anymore is that I am not eating enough? I recently began using a great website from Self Magazine that logs your exercise, allows you to keep a food diary. What I find is that my calorie count for the day is between 800-1000 calories a day. I think it is pretty accurate - is that too little to be eating - I am not hungry. I have read that if you eat too little your body holds on to the calories. Here is a typical menu for the day for me.

Breakfast
Eggbeater cheese omlet
2 slices turkey bacon

Snack - string cheese (don't always have time for snack)

Lunch
Salad (lettuce tomatoe cucumber 1/4 avocado balsamic vinegar)
couple of slices of chicken or hamburger or hardboiled egg

Snack - nonfat yogurt 2 tsp sf jam splenda walnuts (don't always have snack)

Dinner
burger or fish or chicken & vegs

Snack - sometimes a tsp of natural peanut butter (not often)

I really appreciate the feedback I am starting to get discouraged but I am not going to give up because I really want to loose about 25 lbs. Thanks so much for your help!
I also drink plenty of water, decaf ice tea, decaf coffee and tea.

Hi Jackie! I'm with Cathy! I would stop going back to phase 1. Its not supposed to be a punishment for falling off the wagon. Falling off occasionally is EXPECTED on SBD. You can just pick up and move forward from where you were. I would move to phase 2 and start adding in one fruit and one grain serving, plus I only see one dairy serving - you should be having 2-3.
Also your calories are VERY, VERY low!! I don't think I could even function on 800 cal a day! On an average day I eat about twice that, 1600 or so. Its not recommended to ever go below 1200 calories or your body will go into starvation mode. Adding some more dairy, fruit and a grain serving should help bring up your calories to where they need to be!
Also, I find it really helpful to have ALL my snacks, it seems you often skip them or they are VERY light (1 tsp peanut butter is not a big enough snack :-). I know sometimes its hard to find time, but it really helps with weight loss to keep eating throughout the day and keep that metabolism going. Plus it will could help you from straying by fighting off hunger before it starts.
Hope that helps some! Good luck, and if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Hi Jackie,

I absolutely agree with Cathy and MichaelAnn - that is way too few calories.

Thank you all so much for your quick responses. I read the thread you sent Maggie and I think I may be in the yo-yo diet mode. I will definitely add some grain and fruit to my diet and bring up my calories. I was wondering if you new what my calorie count should be. I am 44 weigh 140 would like to be 115. I have to say that I am reluctant to eat more but everything you have said and what I have read makes sense to me. I hope I loose!

Thank you all so much again!

Hi Jackie, I don't really know, because South Beach Diet isn't about calorie counting, at all.
