Phase 2 Questions

Ive been on Phase 2 for a little under a week, but I still have a few minor questions:

1. A cup of milk really fills me up, (especially warm, with a splenda and sprinkle of cinnamon!) this can count as a snack, right?

2. I dont have a food scale, and I am having trouble visualizing 2-3 oz of protien, so I just eat until I feel satisfied (and sometimes a little more than satisfied...). I remember from other diets that a serving of protien is about the size of your fist or a deck of cards...does this hold with South Beach? And how many oz. is an egg? Or egg white?

3. Does your dessert after dinner count as your sweet treat? becasue I have been having a serving of sugar free jello after lunch, and a dessert after dinner(usually one of the phase 1 ricotta recipes, pistacio bark, or one of the other dessert recipes from the South Beach cookbook).

4. I found a iced tea mix called Carb Options. I read on one of the other posts that Crystal Light counts as a sweet treat if you have more that a certain number of cups a day. This Carb Options stuff seems to have no cals, carbs, or sugars in it (I believe crystal light has about 5 cals a cup or something?) So, does that mean that this new mix wouldnt count as a sweet treat?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Sophie,

Welcome!

Milk is dairy and is counted towards the recommended 2 cups in phase 1.

Sorry! I do have one more question...I was reading the phase 2 meal planning guide and I see that it says that snacks are optional. This might sound silly, but does that mean that they are recommended, but not necessary like in phase 1, or they are not recommended unless you need them?

I would say "recommended but not necessary".
