I know that I should be having 2-3 cups of dairy per day, but Im having trouble fitting them in. I usually have a cup of yogurt for a snack, and then a cup of warm milk with my after dinner snack. Im 20 (almost 21) and work out a LOT so i know I should probably be having more like 3 cups a day. I guess my weight loss in phase 2 is so slow (I dont have that much to lose), so I feel like adding more food will only make it go slower. (BTW, Im having the same problems adding back carbs and fruit...how is it possible that with more cals, my weight wont stall?)

Suggestions? I just cant wrap my head around this concept...

Sophie,

I know how you feel. I didn't trust it until I just tried eating everything required, and lo and behold, the weight started coming off(slow but steady).

I have a friend about our age who had about 15 more pounds to lose. She plateud for 3 weeks when school started and her exercise increased. Finally, she upped her calories from 1200 to 1400 a day, added some fish oil pills, and BAM 3 pounds off the next week.

So, just give it a shot!

Our bodies are programmed for survival. If we do not eat enough calories they go into "starvation mode". Back when there was periods of famine and such this was a great feature - they held on to every calorie we gave them by slowing our metabolism. If you don't eat enough your metabolism will slow down, it adjusts to survive on fewer calories. Eating actually helps speed up your metabolism. You're body is free to burn up excess calories because it isn't worried you are starving!

I gained all my weight while eating very few calories. I always thought I was too busy to eat, so I only ate once a day or so - maybe 800 calories total all day. During that time I gained 30lbs! Sure it had to do with other things too...but I strongly believed I really slowed my metabolism way down by not eating enough.

The only time on SB that I stalled was when I failed to move up to my 3 grains/3 fruits. I had moved into phase 2 and was up to having 2 each day - but hadn't gone to 3. I upped my workouts, then stopped losing. As soon as I added in more grains/fruit and a 3rd serving of dairy, the lbs started coming off again.

HTH a little!
