Are there any ice creams that are approved for phase 2?  If not which ice cream would be the least bad for an occasional cheat?

Ice creams aren't allowed, because they would exceed the 100 calorie sweet treat allowance (according to the nutritionists on the official site).

Adding a tip about ice cream and portions:

I scoop mine into a small teacup.

I've been on SBD for quuuiite some time and would love to have some ice cream every once in awhile. Even if it is cheating a bit, which are some semi-ok ice creams?

Hi wes,

NOT the low-carb ice creams....they're very high in total

Hi Meg,

Just like ice cream, it's only for after Phase 2 is established as that "occasional treat".

A lot of frozen yogurt parlors in my area have non-fat, sugar-free varieties available. Ususally they will have 1 or 2 of their flavors available in sugar-free. We go about once a week and get it with the kids as a treat. For a small size cup (about 8 oz) is only about 100 calories.
But frozen yogurt is really easy to make at home too - all you have to do is take your non-fat, plain yogurt that you flavored however you like it (with splenda, sf syrups, jello-powder, spices, etc.) add a little milk and toss it in an ice cream maker. Then I put it in a container and freeze it about 30 min more in the freezer. Scoop and enjoy! It comes out even better if you use yogurt "cheese" (drain the yogurt in cheesecloth over night in the fridge) It makes it creamier and it doesn't freeze as solid, you can actually scoop it the next day.
When we "cheat" and have low-fat, sugr-free ice cream, I like the Breyers Cal Smart. It only has 70 cal per 1/2 cup...so if I have a whole cup its only 140 cal. But what we like to do is have a smaller serving of the ice cream (1/2 cup) and then put a TON of fruit on it. Usually we will sautee some pear, peaches or plum slices in a tiny bit of Smart Balance, splenda and about a T of rum. Getting them nice and carmelized and nice syrup. Then when you pour that over the ice cream, you hardly notice you only have 1/2 cup ice cream!

Yeah, I also figured I might as well use tea cups for something since we don't use them for tea!
