Need Grain Alternatives

I've noticed that eating whole grain foods (bread, triscuits, waffles, etc) seems to make my tummy bloat. I feel totally fine, but the tummy pouch expands more than I'd like. I know that sweet potatoes and winter squashes are starchy and count as carbs. I'm wondering what other foods there are that count as carbs, even though they aren't really grains. I'm cutting off bread & cereal for a couple of days, but I know I need some good carbs. I love sweet potatoes, but I'm not sure I can eat just those as my carbs for an extended period. Any help that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

In addition to whole grains, carbs include all vegetables, fruits and legumes.

Hi Nancy:

I have the same problem when adding grains. Bread, pasta & rice. I'm now on the bean kick I'm having Mashed Lima Beans to night for dinner. That I put into my food proceeser with a some amount of chicken broth mixed into the beans.I call it my green mashed potatoes. Or you can cook up cauiflower and make mashed potatoes out of them.

As for BREAD,I use a portabella mushrooms to sandwich my burgers or chicken patties.

As far as PASTA, I don't miss it,and

RICE I use 1/2 c brown rice added to my veggies.

Hope that helps Hugs :) Maryann

Hi Nancy,

You might want to be sure that you don't suffer from IBS or Crohn's disease.
