I just started today. This is my 3rd time "starting" this diet. I want to loose at least 100 lbs. The doctors have suggested the stomach staple surgery but I refuse to let someone operate on me to rearrange my inards (LOL) so with your help I will start on the road to loosing this weight thru the south beach diet. I have a question for everyone...I don't drink V8 or tomato juice. So what else is there for b-fast.(this morning i drank coffee and ate 2 boiled eggs...and i had a little half and half in my coffee is that allowed?) I haven't stuck to this diet because of my breath begins to stink and there's nothing for b-fast to eat but boiled eggs. I like eggs but i usually eat it on wheat with peanut butter in the mornings. I've tried the quiche and I can't eat that every morning...i've also tried eating the vanilla Racotta cheese (for dessert) and that's nasty to me also. any suggestions how to get thru the first phase and sticking to this diet?

One thing I've been making is something similar to Vegetarian Migas that I get when I eat at a restaurant here in town. I use about a tbsp of olive oil in a big non-stick skillet. I saute slightly any combination of diced (in medium sized chunks) colorful bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and jalepeno peppers. Then I pour in the whites of three eggs whipped with a fork. I scramble quickly, add salt and pepper and serve. I've never liked cheese on my omelets so this is a good dish for me.

After I move into phase 2 I "might" saute real quickly a corn tortilla to slice into strips and serve on top of this. My favorite part is the fresh mushrooms amazingly. I'm not a mushroom eater but they really fill out the flavor and texture. And I try to make sure that I have red bell peppers on hand. It only takes one strip chopped but the color really helps make me feel like I'm eating gourmet and balanced.

I don't know about the breath stinking. I think that is more of an Atkins problem. I don't recall reading anything in Dr. Agatston's book about ketosis (which is often the problem with bad breath I think). Maybe the wonderful cls will be able to help.

You might give a typical day's menu so that they can look at it.

I'm on day 10 of Phase 1. So I'm a newbie too.

good luck!

Kim

Hi Jeanetta!

Welcome to the Beach and the Board - I know with the help of the great people here, you will find success this time!!

For breakfast, don't limit yourself to 'traditional' breakfast foods - leftovers are great for breakfast, so are turkey roll-ups, SBD-friendly soups, etc.

Here are some links with some great ideas:

Hi and welcome to the board!!

I hate eggs, I have NEVER had one for breakfast since starting SB. If its just "boiled" eggs you don't like - you don't have to eat them that way. You can fix them anyway you like...scrambled w/cheese and lean ham or turkey bacon, omlettes with all kinds of veggies, etc. If you don't like them at all (like me) - there are other choices for breakfast. When I was on phase 1 my typical breakfast was plain, ff yogurt w/peanut butter & splenda mixed in and 2 pieces turkey bacon or soy sausage. Leftovers are also great for breakfast. There are even more ideas in the threads Karen and Maggie gave you. And remember, its only 14 days, then you can start having cereal or oatmeal or toast for breakfast!!

I'm not sure about the breath - like Kim said, I have always heard that related to "low-carb" diets like Atkins where you go into ketosis. SB is not low-carb and we don't go into ketosis, so I'm not sure what would be causing the breath problems.

Jeannetta,

Just to add to what MichaelAnn just told you about breath and "ketosis", eating very low carb....that's true.

Hi & welcome!

Just wanted to add that you don't have to drink v8 or tomato juice if you don't like it.
