adjusting my goal weight

I've been allowing myself to get down about how far I have to go. I've lost from 226 to 207.5. I've been listing my goal as 160ish. This has just seemed SO far away. I had an interim goal for a cruise the first week of february. I want to be under 190 for that. Even that is pushing it I think.

So, I took a long hard look at my weight tracking over the last 11+ years. I think 175 will be a good initial long-term goal for me. This is a weight that I was able to maintain in my late 20s with little effort. I would try and get down to 160 but my weight would almost immediately pop back up to 170-175. So, though I'd like to get to 160 or even lower (the official weight charts say I should be 154 or lower I think) I think my body will know whether to get there or not as long as I stay SBD for life.

So now I'll list "gw=175 or lower" and I'll be less anxious and sad about how long it will take me to get to my gw. That is now 32.5 lbs away. I don't know 'when' I'll get there for sure but I do feel it will be before summer gets here LOL! That weight will likely be about a size 12. I'm ok with that for sure and I'll adjust my goals as I go along to make sure things are appropriate for me. I'm very big boned. At 5'5" I wear a 9.5 or 10 shoe and my wrist is always bigger than everyone else's. I've never been able to get an accurate elbow measurement but it seems to be on the large side.

I feel better already! Thanks for "listening" LOL!

I think it's great to have mini goals or flexible goals. If you get to a weight you like and it's not quite your goal weight you shouldbe free to move to P3 there. Also I love little celebrations when we hit those 5 or 10 lb mini goals. Keep going... you're doing great!

Hi Kim, I'm big-boned like you, shoe size and all.

That is a great attitude Kim! Setting realistic goals is great for motivation. Its much easier to stick with something when you KNOW you can get there. And its great to be flexible with it. I made my goal weight very flexible. My "lowest" weight was 130. So instead of aiming for that I aimed for 135 instead as my official goal. But it wasn't set in stone, as I approached 135, the weight was still coming off easily (didn't have that "last 10lb struggle") so I had a feeling I could go lower. I've gone 11lbs below my goal now, so I realized it was probably not the best weight for my body. My body just wants to go lower - but I'm going to let my body "decide" on a healthy weight rather than trying to reach a specific number for vanity-sake, ya know?

So it sounds like a great plan! You're doing awesome!

Hi Kim, I think your new goal weight would be fine to start with... Im like you big bones and feet, I wear an 11 size shoe, Im almost 5`8. My pants are size 10 everyone ask me why am I trying to lose weight? Hello to feel better in my own skin. I am a VERY slow loser. I started this in June of this year and have been following it almost to a tee with very little success. I went from 181 or 183 to 170 now, thats in 5 months. Dec 4th will be 6 months for me and I didnt start losing again until I added all of this exercising in. I run 4 miles Monday through Friday and thats what started me back to losing a little at a time now.. I will settle for that beings it is going down and not up lol.... =)
I had gotten to the point to where I was getting very upset because the scales were not moving except playing around with 2lbs back and forth, I could never get below 172, now at 170 i am way more motivative. I jump on that treadmill like it isnt nothing at all. It just got easier seeing the scale move in my favor. Im glad you feel better.. We are in the same boat!
