limit on beans?

I'm flying through SBD without the book here so forgive me if there's an obvious answer but is there a limit as to how many beans you should have daily during Phase 2? I believe the recommended minimum is 1/3 to 1/2 c. of the vegetable servings be made of beans, but is there a max? I had split pea soup for lunch and then black beans for dinner and was wondering if that was too much...

Thanks for your help,

Beans and split peas are both in the vegetable category. We try to limit them to 1/2 cup per day so that we get our 4.5 cups of veggies from a good variety of sources and because they are calorie dense and potential diet busters.

Karen,
do we *have* to have beans/split peas every day as part of the plan? I've been laboring under the idea that we do, and I've actually gained weight, so I'm wondering if the legumes are the problem... can I cut back?

Thanks again,
Mags

Sure you can cut back. It's mainly important that you get 4.5 cups of veggies in each day. It is recommended that 1/3 to 1/2 cup of those are beans/legumes. If you feel those are causing a stall, cutting back may be the answer. I would try it for a while and see what happens -then start adding small portions of beans back.

Good luck and let us know how this works out for you!

Thanks again Karen -- I'm quite frustrated because I've gained several pounds since switching to South Beach from Carb Addicts. I'm happier and more energetic, but of course my goal is to lose weight. I'm cutting back on legumes, cheese and nuts for sure, and upping my veggie intake. Will let you know how it goes.

Mags,

Sounds like a good plan. Don't forget to drink lots of water, too. Please keep us posted!
