Sugar Free/Fat FreeYogurt brand?
| Tue, 01-31-2006 - 11:31pm |
Hi ya'll -- sorry for asking a question that's probably been asked a billion times before... but when I use the little board-search engine for "yogurt", I get WAAAAYY too many messages to sift through...
I can't find a sugar-free/fat-free plain yogurt ANYWHERE! I think maybe it was Cathy who once posted a little picture of the brand she buys -- and I bought "it" last week. Then when I got home I realized that I actually bought the "all natural plain" yogurt by Dannon. What a waste -- I was in such a hurry that I grabbed it because I thought I recognized the little design on the label from the picture, and didn't stop to read the nutrition info first.
Any help is appreciated!!
:-)

I am so glad you asked this because I was totally befuddled in the yogurt section today. Waaaay too many options LOL! I will be waiting w/breath held to see the answer. ;-)
Would it be OK to tag another yogurt Q on? I was wondering if flavored yogurts are OK in P2? There are some w/splenda and also some "carb counter" varieties, but I think they still have sugar in them (just less than normal). Is it better to buy plain & add fresh fruit or 100% fruit spread to flavor?
Hi ladies!
The best yogurt to buy is plain fat-free yogurt. It is fine on all phases and 8 oz.
Hi Ladies,
This link (from the "getting started" post) has lots of great ideas for flavoring nonfat, plain yogurt:
South Beach and Dairy - it's for ALL phases! The Dairy guidelines, great recipes and tips: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-fbsouthbeach&ft=1&ctx=&gfc=1&msg=13867.1
Nonfat, plain yogurt is the #1 choice for all phases of South Beach.
"can you tell me, what is the "gram count" that I should stay under to be on the safe side?"
No worries...just stick with nonfat plain yogurt, and you'll be on the safe side.
Hello All,
I was just wondering why yogurt was added to SBD P1 even though the original book does not have it. Is it something that enhances the weight loss or was it added to comply with certain guidelines about the minimum dairy intake on any diet? I am just interested in knowing the reasons behind the change.
Thanks
Studies showed that dairy actually aided in weight loss.
Hi. Good question. Dairy was added to SBD because of the important nutrients provided, like calcium. Additionally, studies have shown that dairy actually aids in weight loss.
Milk - Old Version:
Avoid all dairy in Phase 1, except for less than 2 tablespoons fat-free 1/2 and 1/2, nonfat milk, 1 percent milk, or soy milk allowed with coffee.
Milk - New Version:
Phase 1:
Now includes 1 percent or fat-free milk, low-fat plain soy milk (4 grams of fat or less per serving), 1 percent or fat-free buttermilk, and fat-free plain yogurt on the Phase 1 "foods to enjoy" list. Limit dairy to 2 servings a day on Phase 1. Note: Feel free to flavor your fat-free plain yogurt like a ricotta creme.
Phase 2:
May introduce artificially sweetened nonfat flavored yogurt, but limit this variety to 4 ounces daily. Note: Since the SBD is
