Need clarification on carrots, fruits

I have read the P2 getting started info and am confused:
First, do you treat carrots like fruits & starches? I see, for example, pumpkin & squashes count as starch. But carrots are under veggies. Does that mean you can have a fruit, a starch AND carrots each day? Or would you have to give up a serving of fruit/grain in order to eat carrots during first week of P2? I hope that makes sense. I'm dying to eat carrots again! :-)
Next, I don't understand if when you introduce 1 fruit & 1 grain, it has to be the same fruit & same grain for first week or two. Like cereal every AM and an apple every PM. Or can you do a different fruit each day, as long as you only have one? I see the conservative approach recommends one item at a time until well established but it's unclear to me whether the same applies for the normal approach.

Carrots are counted as a vegetable in phase 2.
I love variety far too much to eat the same old fruit & grain every day.
