How often do you weigh?

Hi, I'm new here, but certainly not new to the whole weight loss process. I have been working on losing (sort of unsuccessfully) for more than 20 years ;-) In the process I have messed up my body beyond belief; including a long-time battle with bulimia. I started South Beach a couple of weeks ago -- it seems to be a fairly sensible program. In order to keep myself from "procrastination syndrome", where I cheat for several days and then panic two days before weekly weigh-in and purge (my pattern in the past), I have been weighing every day. The problem with that is some days when the scale doesn't go down, or even goes back up a pound, I get frustrated -- even though intellectually I know that that's part of the process. This is a huge issue for me. Does anyone have a thought on when and why you weigh in? Another issue for me is that I am too overweight to get health insurance right now; so I am highly motivated to get about 30 pounds off fairly quickly so I can apply for new insurance.

Hi Katie,
For many people, scales are the cause of emotional rollercoasters.
I weigh myself once a week on the same day. If I do it everyday, I drive myself crazy!!! Thats my advice and I agree with Maggie. You need to focus on the healthy changes you notice besides the scale. For example, I have only lost 5 pounds, but I feel great and can tell I am more toned. Even my guy roomate noticed!!
HTH and GOOD LUCK
Amy
