Moving to P2

Ok, I'm moving to P2 after 21 days . . . .yes I would like to stay in what feels like a safe zone of P1, but I know I need the nutrition in P2.

I have a couple of questions as I am addicted to this board now for ideas and thoughts.

1. If I am looking at a label at the store . . . I know I'm looking for low/no sugar, high fiber, high protein, low/no trans fats---- but sometimes I get confused. .. Something I think would be taboo shows up on the approved list . . .are there some guidelines I can use.

2. All of the wonderful insight, updates, etc that many of you post ---- do you get that from subscribing to the SouthBeachdiet.com website and paying the weekly fee. I use my book often, but there is even more information on here. I thought about doing the website but not sure I want to do the weekly fee if it's not beneficial.

Thoughts?
Thanks so much for this board. we have WONDERFUL cl's

Hi Michelle,

Congratulations on moving to P2 - you'll be happy you did!!

Here are some 'general' rules of thumb you can use when shopping/reading labels:

  • avoid all trans fats - usually shown as hydrogenated oil
  • condiments should contain 3g sugar per serving or less
  • cheeses should have 6g of fat or less per ounce
  • lean meats should have 10g or less of total fat and 4.5g or less of saturated fat per 100g portion
  • meat substitutes (soy burgers, hot dogs, bacon) should have 6g of fat or less per 2-3 ounce serving
  • breads and cereals - 3g fiber per 30g (1 oz. serving)
  • breads should never have 'enriched'
