So confused about cereals!

I realized this AM that the high fiber bran flakes I've been eating have corn syrup in them... I was so focused on fiber content, I forgot to check for sugar! :-O
But now I've searched product info for the other cereals on the recommended list and see most of them contain some kind of sweetener (sugar, corn syrup, cane juice). Only a couple are sweetened with prune juice or totally NSA. Kashi GOLEAN actually has corn flour & corn meal...I thought corn was totally off limits?!
So do you think it's OK to stick w/these flakes since most of the options given on the SBD site do have corn syrup or other added sugar? The overall sugar content in my flakes (it's a generic brand) is actually lower than some of those on the "best" list. I haven't had any trouble w/cravings or blood sugar swings since starting P2.
My other question is whether cereal needs a carb competitor. Is the fiber in the cereal enough or is fat/acid also required? I'm not sure what to add since the cereal itself is very filling and doesn't lend itself well to the addition of oil or cheese. Nuts I guess?

Hi,
Cereal used to be a lot less complicated when I started South Beach in 2003.
