An - Nut - Ther Question (or two)

Hi All -

Well, here I am in Phase 2. It was good to go to the store and buy some bread (Pep Farm German Dark Wheat) and a grapefruit. All the breads I saw have 1.5 oz in a slice so this means it is 1 1/2 servings of starch, correct? But that is not my real question. In the table in the "good fat good carb" book, it says that a serving of almonds is one ounce. On all the cans of almonds I found, one ounce equals 28 almonds. The books say 15 almonds. All the nutrional values (fats, carbs) are the same so is 28 almonds allowed? This is a nice sized snack. Also, are the "Truth about Carbs" WW dinners allowed? Sometimes it's just easier to grab one of these. They have low fat and the one I am looking at has 5g sugar. Anyone have comments on this? And also can anyone suggest a brand of sauce to use on eggplant or spaghetti squash and also what brand of light yogurts do you buy? What daily allowance totals does sauce count towards? I realize this is alot of questions and I thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Molly,

I'll try to answer your questions:

If your slice of bread weighs 45 grams than it would count as 1 1/2 grain servings.

Molly,

I can answer 2 of your questions:

I use Muir Glen organic tomato sauce. It has no added sugar in the ingredients and shows the lowest amount of sugar in the nutrition information that I have found. It tastes good and I use it in my cooking. I also bought the Ragu No Sugar Added spagetti sauce and it is really good as well.

For yogurt I use one called FAGE (authentic greek yogurt). It is very creamy and delicious. It also only has 9g of carbs per 1 cup serving which is great.

Good Luck

Thank you for all the info. The bread I bought says 43g/1.5 oz per slice and has 3 grams of fiber. I thought I was buying a good bread but I guess I better look more closely at the labels. I followed the guideline on the bread and cereal recommendations that I got off this site but I obviously didn't read it through. I went straight to the shopping list and now I see the part where it says to check labels closely for those one-ounce servings. Geez, I wonder if I will ever get this all straight. Seems like a new question comes up every day. I'll keep plugging, thanks again, I'm sure I will be back bugging everyone again.

Hi Molly,

It takes a while to get the hang of it all.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will try to look for these brands in my store. Sometimes it gets confusing looking at all the labels but I will hopefully get used to it.
