Thinking about starting South Beach

Hello Everyone,

I am thinking about starting the South Beach Diet. I have about 50 lbs to lose. I have struggled maintaining any type of diet for years. I am really trying to change my life behaviours and maintain the new healthy habits. I am trying to decide to simply read the book or join the website program. Any suggestions? I would love all of your thoughts.

Thank you.

Hi and welcome!

I would definately recommend that you read the book. It's an easy read and it will really help you to understand the concept of the diet. I have been following this WOE for over 2 years and periodically re-read it.

This board is also a great source of information. Check out our "Getting Started" thread for lots of great information, tips, advice, recipe ideas, etc. Here is the link:

Welcome! I think you will enjoy and find success with the SBD. Once you get the hang of it, it's a simple way of eating with plenty of good food. One thing I like about it, is that after the initial two weeks, it gives you what I call a natural will power. I always thought I had no will power and that was why I couldn't stay on a diet. Turns out the foods I was eating was actually causing cravings and the lack of will power. So now I don't have to worry if someone brings in goodies at work or when I see something on TV. I'm not eating out of control. Also the foods are all things I like anyway and if you look through the recipes on this board you'll find SBD versions of what we all love to eat.

So jump right in!
