Wow!  This sure seems like a lot of food to eat.  Today is my 1st day and I am starting on P2 as I still bf my DD about 6x/day.  I was on WW last year and was allowed 34 WW Pts/day.  So far I have had 20 WW Pts and just finished lunch!  If I continue this way I will actually be eating more than I did on WW.  Is this normal???  And do I really have to eat everything as listed in the daily menu plan or is less OK?  Here is what I have had today:

Breakfast

  • sm can V-8

  • 1oz. Kashi cereal with 8 oz ff milk

  • 2 slices turkey bacon

  • 1/2 small banana

Snack

  • 30 pistachios

Lunch

  • 1/2 whole grain bagel (2 oz. and only C. fiber, but I am not going to throw the pkg out - will get ones with more fiber next time), with 3 oz turkey and one slice ff American - all toasted

  • 10 baby carrots and 1/2 lg. green pepper, with 2 Tbs. bleu cheese dressing for dip

  • 1/2 C. unsweetened applesauce

Thanks for any help!

Nope, not too much food at all! That is the best part of South Beach!

The idea is that you are really revving up your metabolism. Keeping your blood sugars even and allowing your body plenty of nourishment. When calories are too restricted it actually slows your metabolism. When I gained most of my weight I was eating LESS than I did while I was losing! I used to just eat one meal per day, I would starve myself all day (said I was "too busy" to eat) then eat just dinner. I gained 40+ pounds while doing that - even though I was probably only eating about 1000 calories per day. I had severly damaged my metabolism.

My father has been doing WW since about the same time I started South Beach, I don't have personal experience with it, and I know it really works for some. But I was blown away at how little he is allowed to eat. When he was visiting, I ate much more than he did (and he was about 225lbs at the time) He's lost about 30lbs in the last year, which is great - but by eating MORE than him I have lost twice as much weight!

I think the best way to look at it is - its not as much about QUANITY of food, its more about QUALITY of food that we eat!
