I don't buy sandwich meat often but sometimes I just crave a chicken or turkey sandwich. I found the wraps that I mentioned a while back on here and had bought some on-sale chicken breast that day I first found the legal wraps. At the time it was so cheap I didn't much care if it was a little non-legal. Now I'd like to find out and don't want to have to go back to the deli (Super Target) if I don't have to. I called the deli to find out the brand and turns out I can't find it online. It is Black Bear Brand. The flavor I got was buffalo chicken breast. It is really spicy and the slices 'look' to be whole chicken breast.
What makes a sandwich meat SBD legal or non-legal?
I'm sure I'll end up having to go to the deli to see what the ingredients are but couldn't find specifics on sandwich meat to know what to look for. I just feel we aren't supposed to have processed meats or at least not often.
thanks
Kim

Kim,
I have had the buffalo chicken breast you mention and believe it to be friendly. The general rule on deli meats is that they are 'lean'. Some choices are oven roasted turkey breast, oven roasted chicken breast, lean imported or domestic ham, turkey pastrami, turkey ham, turkey salami, roast beef, roast pork, roast eye round. Try to avoid honey turkey chicken or ham. Also avoid regular salami and other equally fatty meats. Does this help?
Thank you, Karen! That does help. Since salami sounds aweful to me as does roast beef (roast beast) I think I'm pretty safe. And the honey roasted stuff always smells funny to me after a day so I don't buy that either!

I love turkey ham. It's not as salty as regular ham. I love it on 9 grain bread with some lf swiss and really good mustard
MM, Karen, that makes my mouth water. My favorite things to add to sandwiches or wraps?
I keep bottles of red wine vinegar and sherry wine vinegar in the fridge to sprinkle on the veggies.
I like to sprinkle about a tsp of parmesan cheese on.
I seed and peel cucumbers and chop them up small to put in salads and in sandwiches (mostly just sandwiches for the added crunch).
I seed (squeeze) my tomatoes before slicing or chopping for a sandwich sometimes. That keeps the sandwich from getting soggy from the middle part of the tomato.
I like a mix of spicy mustard and light ranch now that I'm on SBD. For some reason the light ranch adds an even different zing. I never liked store bought ranch before. My mom always made homemade buttermilk ranch when I was growing up so that was what I was accustomed to. About 1 tbsp of each in a wrap is yummy.
mmmmm
I might have to have sandwiches for dinner! hubby had a vastectomy today so he is 'out' laying down in bed and sleeping.
thanks!

"hubby had a vastectomy today so he is 'out' laying down in bed and sleeping."
Kim,
Best wishes to him!!!
Thanks Maggie. I had my IUD out yesterday. I'm hoping to get my sex drive back just in time for him to have his 3 month checkup that says no spermies. In between we'll use condoms. Bless his heart. He took a xanax before the procedure. This is a drug I took for a few months after my daughter died. I actually drove to work and worked with it. He is OUT. I wonder if his dose is higher? They only gave him one to take just before the procedure and that is it.
I AM excited about no more hormonal BC or condoms (eventually). Should be very good for us. *wink*

Oh I am soooo jealous Kim! Dh was *supposed* to get it done last summer, he had it scheduled 3 or 4 times but something kept "coming up at work" that he couldn't miss. Yeah, right! Our old insurance would have covered all of it (with just a $20 co-pay. Our new one doesn't cover any of it. I was really bummed when I found out - dh got a big lecture on the evils of procrastinating! Hopefully we'll still be able to do it, since in the long run the cost is worth it - but after the move and buying/fixing up the house, it'll have to wait.
I refuse to ever use hormonal birth control again (it had a huge affect on my weight and my depression issues) So he has been stuck with condoms for the last 18 months. You'd think that would have motivated him to get it done!

When my dh had his V, they gave him one Xanax. When I went to pick him up, the nurse snorted and told me "Oh yeah...yours is the guy laying in the back mumbling 'Dizz Dannags...ain't... doin' nuffin...'" ROFL
