I haven't eaten this in quite some time (been 'off' the oatmeal for a while). I looked back at it today before eating it (have a box in the cabinet) and thought it probably isn't approved because of the fiber 'sources'. (based on SBD official board postings) I'll eat it no matter what (and my kids will too because it won't go to waste!).

But here are the ingredients and facts:

1 packet = 36g, 120cal
2.5 g fat
6g fiber
4 g protein

whole grain rolled oats, flaxseed meal, inulin, gum arabic, oat bran, maltodextrin, plant sterol esters, dipotassium phosphate, plant fiber....

Kimmie, is it instant oatmeal, or do you have to cook it for awhile?

I guess it is instant. I have it for the times when dd wants some and for when I am in a big hurry and don't have any steel cut oats precooked. It says it cooks in 1 minute in the microwave but I find I have to cook it a bit longer and add a bit more water. I don't have any cravings from it at all so I don't think the processing that it has increases its GI too much. I just thought it might not be legal because of the types of fiber that are added. I guess I still don't 'get' what is legal and what isn't since a couple of things I'd have thought were ok aren't due to the 'added fiber sources.'

I'm so with you Kim - I was very surprised that that is would officially be legal and yet Barilla Plus Pasta is not (I believe it has the SAME added fiber sources, like flax seed and inulin) And those are often added to the "low-carb" breads were told to stay away from.

Of course I will not understand either why instant oatmeal is not allowed since it has NONE of the fiber "removed" its only ground up finer (exactly the same as grinding my slow cooking oats in the blender, which seems to me the same as grinding berries to make a smoothie...one is legal, one is not)

Anyhow, I think you are right on the money that what counts is how YOUR body reacts.
