Favorite Snacks???

Hi everyone.

What is your favorite snack? My favorites are:

Edamame Beans (soy beans in the pod, buy them frozen at Asian markets and just drop in boiling water for 2 minutes, sprinkle with salt and enjoy! I LOVE these!)

Yogurt (I microwave 2 frozen strawberries and mix them into plain yogurt with some vanilla and sweet N low. I swear it tastes SO much better than the strawberry-flavoured ones you buy) Sometimes I eat it with a tablespoon of Kashi Go Lean cereal (another snaking favorite).

Golden delicious Apple with 1 tablespoon peanut butter.

Hummos with celery and a couple olives

But I'm getting tired of these--- what do you like for a snack???

You already named two of my favorites, yogurt and apples w/peanut butter.

Some of my other favorites are:
string cheese wraped in sliced ham or turkey
sliced ham or turkey on top of triscuits
Kashi granola bars
Vita-Spelt pretzels dipped in peanut butter
pita "crisps" (ww pita cut into triangles and broiled until crispy) with salsa

I love edamame beans!!!!!!!! At work sometimes I bring some cottage cheese with 1/2 an apple chopped up with cinnamon, PB in celery, 15 cashews, piece of cheese. I save the yogurt for late eves. sometimes i freeze yogurt with fruit or vanilla in my donvier freezer, make a soft serve. That is fun in the summer when I want something cold. Nothing too novel here. Leila

Oh, I haven't had edamame beans in ages. I forgot about those. Time to make a trip to Trader Joe's to get some.

Lately I've become addicted to frozen red grapes. I just clean them and pick from the stems. Then put in a bowl in the freezer. I haven't even touched the fudge pops since I started this. I just have to remember to ration them out.

An oldie but goodie snack is the Laughing cow on celery, cucumbers, Triscuits or anything! I love that stuff. Cottage cheese, yogurt, apples, and tuna in a lettuce wrap are also some of my favorites.

veggies & ranch dressing/dip (my favs are jicama, broccoli, red peppers, radishes, celery)

What exactly are edamame beans?! They seem to be a favorite, and I'd love to try them, but am not sure I can find them where I live. I'm in a very rural area; not a lot of specialty shops. The closest Trader Joe's to me is over an hour away.

What are they, and are they possibly something I could find near me? (And how do you pronounce it?).

Thanks!
Laurie

You pronounce it ED-A-MOMMY. They are soy beans. Look in the specialty frozen vegetable section in your grocery store. You can also find them in asian markets. They are a bit hard to find.

It must depend on where you live for finding Edamame.

Hi. How about asking the manager of your local grocery store to stock them? They are gaining popularity, and they are quite good for you since they are soy beans after all. This article even suggests they might be more healthful than other soy products.

Here is a link to a page discussing edamame and it's health benefits..

My grocery store carries them fresh in the produce department as well as the frozen variety.
