Any icecreams acceptable?
| Mon, 04-24-2006 - 12:51pm |
I am an icecreamaholic. I can get thru winter ok without it but summer is going to be very tough. When I wa on weight watchers, I used to eat the weight watchers big hot fudge sundaes which have an aweful lot of taste and icecream packed into 2 pts of food but I know that they won't be acceptable on the sbd. Is there any kind of icecream that I can have? How about some kind of frozen yogurt?

I am substituting the sugar-free fudgesicles for ice cream, and that is working for me right now! Have you tried those yet?
I did notice some sugar free, light ice cream (Edy's slow churned) today at the grocery, and I wondered if that was acceptable. If so, I might keep some of that on hand this summer. I am rather fond of my summer ice cream, too.

Technically, these ice creams are not approved. However, I ate them almost every night in phase 2 and did not have a problem. But it was my choice, and I exercised quite a bit and my choloestrol was fine.
I would not risk it at first. I would hate to see your weight loss slow down or your blood lipids get wacky because of it.

We eat fat-free/sugar-free ice cream quite often. Watch out for the "low carb" ones, they are high in fat. I also like Healthy Choice No Sugar Added - its not fat-free, it has 2-3g fat per serving, so I don't know if it would be "approved" but its much better in texture than the fat-free. Like Lisa, I made a personal decision to have it since I exercise quite a bit. I never stalled and always lost steadily anyways, so it never concerned me. The biggest problems with the ice creams is that you only get a VERY small serving to stay in the 100 calorie sweet treat limit. Usually 1/2 cup or less.
I actually prefer fat-free/sugar-free frozen yogurt from a yogurt parlor. It usually has about 10-15 calories per oz. (ask for the nutritional info from yours specifically, it can vary depending on which brand of mix they use) So you can usually have an 8oz serving and stay within the 100 calorie limit.

I would love it if my local fozen yogurt place had NSA flavors. Their gig is "natural" so that would not include artificial sweeteners. Poop.
On Phase 3, however, I do get it once a week even with the sugar (shhh, don't tell anyone!)

It's "illegal", but at our house, we sometimes have no-sugar-added, lowfat ice cream sweetened with Splenda.
