Tomorrow I start my 3rd week of phase 2. Should I add another grain and fruit to be up to 3 of each per day? Or is it you can have 2-3 of each per day, depending on what you want to eat? Please advise.
Thanks!
Kate
Kate, you can do it any of those ways.
Thanks Maggie! Is there a difference in weight loss effects depending on which option you choose? I am terrified of getting on the scale tomorrow morning after 1 week of having 2 grains and 2 fruits. And I have been exercising like a madwoman, but I am so afraid that I won't see a scale loss, or even worse, will see a scale gain!

Thanks again Maggie, for the great advice! Just to clarify--I can have 2-3 fruits and 2-3 grains per day, and it just depends on what I feel like eating. And I should still lose weight. There is no benefit of staying at 2 fruits and 2 grains for another week. Correct?
Thanks!
Kate
There is absolutely no benefit to staying at 2 grains 2 fruits and not moving on to 3. In fact it can have a negative effect if you do not move on. When I first started phase 2, I stayed at 2 of each for awhile - I just wasn't sure how to add more and maybe in the back of my mind thought the less I had, the better. I couldn't have been more wrong...staying at 2 of each caused me to stall. As soon as I went up to 3 of each I started losing again.
Sometimes I really wish phase 1 didn't exist. It trains us to think grains and fruit are "bad" or "the enemy" and the less we have the better. It makes people think that they are "treats" we get to add back, or things that we need to severly restrict in order to lose weight. But its simply not the case. They are very healthy, wonderful foods.
In fact once I hit my original goal weight last Sept. I started eating more than 3 servings of grains - some days 4 or 5. I STILL continued to lose 15 more pounds eating 4-5 grains per day!

Thank you Michael Ann for your wonderful explanation! That really makes sense about having the incorrect thinking b/c of "training" ourselves to think that way in phase 1.
By the way, I looked at your pictures and read your story and it really gave me inspiration--thanks so much for posting them! I have the same amount of weight to lose as you did, and I am the same height as you (although I'm probably even closer to 5'2"), so it really helps me to relate.
Thanks again!
