Starting Phase 2 Today!!!

Hey all DH and I are starting Phase 2 today. Had a couple of questions about fruit and bread. I added one slice of whole grain bread to my breakfast this morning it says 3g fiber for 1.5oz slice. Is this ok for a serving? too much? Also...I know fresh fruit is better but I didn't make it to the grocery store this weekend so I have Del Monte Carb Clever Peaches and Pears sweetened with Splenda and Dole All Natural Pineapple Chunks in Pineapple Juice. Are these ok? And would the serving sizes be what they suggest? 1/2 cup? And has anyone found what time of day is best for adding the grains and the fruits? Mornings? Afternoons? both?

Thanks a bunch!!!

Thanks Cathy...I did read through the thread and it gives amounts for whole peaches and pears, but nothing about canned that is why I'm unclear as to whether or not 1/2 cup is an actual serving of fruit this is the nutrition facts for the Peaches:

Serving Size 1/2 cup (121g)

Calories 30
Fat 0
Cholesterol 0
Sodium 10
Carbs 7
Fiber 1
Sugar 6
Protein 1

Ingredients: Peaches, water, ascorbic acid, acesulfame potassium, sucralose

Hi,

Just found this response on the official South Beach website regarding "Carb Clever" fruit:

The best choice for fruit is fresh fruit. Generally canned fruit does not have the fiber content compared to fresh fruit. Therefore would not be as good a choice as the fresh.

Hi! I'm also starting P2 today. I started my day with cold cereal. I think I'll have my daily carb with breakfast as I'm always verry hungry in the morning. I did read somewhere on the board to avoid fruit with breakfast as it's natural sugars and could cause an insulin spike first thing or something. I've read in several other places that fruit should be eaten alone as it digests faster than any other food, so I'm having cut-up apple for an afternoon snack. So I think when you wants the carbs is up to you.

Yes...I understand this concept...unfortunately I have NO fresh fruit in the house and the nearest store for me is 1/2 hour away for me and it's just not possible for me to go to the grocery store today as I babysit and refuse to drag other people's children to the grocery store (it's difficult enough with my own LOL). SO my question is still "Do I go by the serving size on the can for an "official" south beach serving size for fruit? Or do I need more? I need to add a fruit today as it is the first day on Phase 2.

Thanks,
Cher

Yes, I would follow the recommended serving size on the can.

Thanks Cathy...I don't mean to be such a pain.

Sorry one more thing...I just re-checked the bread suggestions in the "starting Phase 2" thread and Pepperidge Farm Natural Multi Grain bread is on that list. That is the bread that I had for breakfast this morning that I was telling you about. So if it's on that list is it ok even though it's 3g fiber in 1.5oz slice?
