Soooooo hungry today!

Maybe it's because I'm on my period, or maybe it's the carbs I've just re-introduced into my diet, or maybe it's because I had a fabulous run this morning, but my stomache is a bottomless pit today. I'm not necessarily craving carbs; I just want to eat everything!

Today I had a piece of cheese w/ an apple before my run. Then I ran 8 miles and came back and had some hot multi-grain cereal. Since then I've snacked on bell peppers and laughing cow cheese, some leftover steak, and a few bites of ricotta creme. It's almost lunch time, and I'm still hungry. I'll have my veggie scrambled eggs, and I sure hope that does the trick.

How do you handle days like this?

I'd say just keep eating the right foods if you're hungry.

First be sure that you're well hydrated.

I feel a lot more normal, now that I've had lunch. My appetite has been kind of small since starting this diet, but today I was unexpectedly hungry. I'm still thinking I'll probably need a substantial snack this afternoon, and of course a good dinner.

Sorry you aren't feeling so well today! Are you coming down with something?

Running 8 miles would make my stomach a bottomless pit too! EAT! :-)

But seriously - working out hard burns lots of calories (running burns TONS and TONS as I'm sure you know) I don't run - but I try and do 1.5 hrs at the gym 5-6 days per week. When I first started South Beach I didn't exercise nearly that much, but I noticed a very direct correlation between when upped my workouts, my hunger went up to. I just listened to my body and ate accordingly.

This last week I didn't go to the gym much (had a cold, kids sick, etc.) and I noticed a huge difference in my appetite. I had to remind myself to eat snacks rather than being *ravishing* by snack time when I'm keeping up my workout schedule.

So I would just chalk it up to "refueling"!

Hi Diane,

You have an exceptionally high level of exercise, and I think the bottom line is that you just simply need more fuel than inactive or less active people need.

Thanks Maggie. I saw your advice regarding dairy in the other thread, and I will be sure to include more dairy in my diet as well.

Today was another hungry day. Just to make myself feel better, I calculated the calories I burned in my run this morning, then totalled up all the calories I consumed throughout the day. I'm still burning more calories than I eat, so I guess I can relax a little and just stick to my list of SB-friendly foods.

I've gone ahead and started eating three fruits and three grains every day. It's making me feel more energetic, and I'm not missing junky carbs at all. So this must be working, right?
