Hi,

I was wondering if there is a certain time of they that eating fruit is better. For example, I brought some strawberries to work today and was wondering if I should have had them in the morning or after lunch sometime? What about a banana or orange?

For breakfast I usually have some cereal and a hard boiled egg, around 10:00 I'll have some cheese, lunch (salad w/ lots of veggies and protein), jello, snack around 2:00 is usually ham or turkey slices, some veggies too.. whatever is on hand. Or sometimes the snack is an apple w/ pistachios. Supper is around 5:00 and its usually chicken and some sort of veggie. Then pudding in the evening. Also, throughout the day i get my 8-10 cups of water in.

If someone could help with some suggestions for the extra fruit... also I think on the 2nd and 3rd week of phase 2 I should also be having more grains... wow another problem! Am I eating too much on phase 2? HELP!

One good thing though... I got on the scale this morning and lost 4 3/4 last week! Woo Hoo!

Thanks for your help

I'm not big on eating many fruits either, except maybe for red grapes, but other than that I tend to put my fruit into smoothies. It it weren't for making smoothies I wouldn't be getting enough for sure, and I actually still don't get it all in each day. For instance I take a serving of blueberries and put them in the blender with nf plain yogurt and a little silken tofu and if they are frozen blueberries just add either a bit of honey or splenda and mix from that. If they are fresh blueberries I add a few ice cubes too. If I need more fruit that I don't think I'll be getting in later in the day I'll add a banana to it too. I like red grapes so I buy them and store them in the fridge and take a hunk of them out and leave them out on the table so I can snack on them. I ususally just take out about a serving size amount so I know I can snack on them and not overdo it. I also use different fruit for my smoothies so I don't get bored. Then the one other type of fruit I like is melon, so sometimes I take cut up melon and grapes and mix them with fresh mint leaves and a little freshly squeezed lime over the top and keep it in the fridge in a big bowl and have that as a snack or dessert. When it is all cut up and ready to go I am more likely to eat it. I measured out a cup full of it and put that my bowl so that now I can eyeball how much to fill my bowl to just get one serving.

Hey - congrats on the weight loss! That is great!

I did read in the book that fruit in the morning isn't the best time. Something about bumping up the cravings for the day. Therefore, I've been trying to get mine in at lunch or in the afternoon. Not sure if it's made a difference....I could try fruit with breakfast one day and see what happens.

I don't love fruit, but I'm also a fan of the red grapes. I've been freezing them, which to me is very good. I have an easier time eating frozen grapes than fresh for some reason. My kids think I'm weird!

Thank you both for your responses.

I dont necessary have a problem with liking fruit.. I am more concerned about what time of day to have it as to not spike my sugar and get more cravings. I feel like if I have to eat all of the extra fruit and grain that I'm going to be eating constantly!

The best way to enjoy your fruit and avoid spikes and cravings, is to enjoy the fruit along with a "carb competitor" - protien, fiber, fat and/or acidity.
