My husband LOVES these pretzels, and this has always been a favorite snack at my house.

Today I looked at the ingredients, just in passing. I was so surprised!

Unbleached wheat flour
Water
Yeast
Salt
Soda

That's it!

Facts:

Serving size - 1 pretzel (they are large and thick - maybe 5x3", about 28g)

Fat - 0g
Cholesterol - 0g
Carbs - 22g total
Dietary fiber - 1g
Sugars - 0g
Protein - 3g
Sodium - 240mg

I searched to see if these had been discussed here before. They had, but there was never a definite answer from a nutritionist. Would these be a legal choice in phase 2 and 3?

Thanks for checking,

Hi Laurie,

Sorry, but the fiber is way too low for these pretzels.

Gotcha. Nothing really illegal, just not enough fiber! Makes sense.

I saw the list of approved pretzels, I just do not see any of them at my grocery store. I'm not a "health food store" kind of girl! I probably should be, but there aren't any close.

Thank you!

I also can't find any of the recommended pretzels in my area (I'm in Canada). Too bad as the spelt ones sound neat. I'm actually going to the States next week (Seattle, about 3 hours south of me) and it's always a kick to check out the different groceries down there!

Well, technically you would want them to be made with a whole grain flour. These are made with just run of the mill white flour. They are at least sourdough which is favored as a bit of a lower glycemic option.

Remember that you are looking for "whole wheat flour" not just "wheat flour."

Good luck!

Lisa.
