I was just looking through the restaurant guide link and on several of the salads it mentions to leave off the bacon. I thought we could have bacon? Generally the only time I have bacon is in my salad and I buy those "real" crumbled bacon bits. Is this bad?

For breakfast I generally have the canadian bacon, so it wouldn't be a big deal I guess just to not put the bacon on my salad.

Bacon is high in fat (plus it is saturated fat) and can be made with sugar so it is not recommended. Turkey bacon can be substituted because it is much lower in fat.

Some core aspects to South Beach are: 1. eating whole grains rather than processed grains 2. no added sugars (honey too!) 3. increased consumption of veggies 4. lower fat (especially trans or saturated fats).

If you keep those ideas in your head when you are making your food choices it makes it really easy!

Good luck,

Lisa.

Yep - as Lisa said, only turkey bacon is allowed (also I believe there are some soy "bacon" that is legal also) Regular bacon is too high in saturated fat.
