Am I doing something wrong in P2?

I have a cup of coffee in the morning (one measuring cup, about), and one serving of South Beach Cereal with skim milk for breakfast. That is it. I make my lunch. About 8:45 my tummy is growing something fierce. I don't want to eat anything until break which is 10 am and then I have some plain lowfat yogurt with pudding mixed in it and some bread - the Sara Lee Whole Wheat stuff. It is SBD legal. But why is my tummy saying that i am hungry and sometimes I get this sick feeling - hunger?

I only have one fruit a day and that is an orange (medium) for 3 o'clock break. Maybe add a fruit or fiber?

No, you're not doing anything wrong.

I definitely agree - maybe try something else for breakfast. One thought is that South Beach cereals are not very high in fiber. In fact according to the original rules of South Beach - they would not even be legal. Originally cereal had to have 8g fiber per serving, the SBD cereals are much lower than that. And fiber helps keep us full longer. So if you really like cereal, before giving it up - I would try a different, higher fiber cereal - like one of the Kashi cereals. Also add a carb competitor with it like some turkey bacon or soy sausage. Additional fiber plus some protein may do the trick and you could still have cereal!

I have found, for me, that I can NOT eat cereal for breakfast unless I have a significant carb competitor with it.

Hi Fanci, I agree with all the advice you got....add "carb competitors" to your breakfast such as turkey bacon, etc.

Fanci,

I think it is probably the combination of a grain and coffee...both of these can cause a rise in insulin levels that does not last very long....You need to add something that will digest slower to your breakfast...I would suggest peanut butter or a hard boiled egg. The rise and fall of insulin is what is causing your hunger. That is one of the benefits of South Beach is controlling these peaks and valleys.

You'll do fine if you just modify your breakfast a little bit.

It's good to have a molecular biologist on the board LOL
