Yes, another question about breakfast

I had the usual bowl of SBD cereal with a little milk this morning and then I had one half of a small sweet potato with butter in it and nutmeg and ginger. Was this ok? I also had a cup of coffee with skim milk and spenda and the davinci syrup in it. I will see how I feel later around 9 this morning. Thank you for that information - I pinned it on the refrigerator door along with the other one that gives info on all 3 phases of the diet (brief summarizations) and I showed it to my daughter. She is still mulling it over about this diet. She asked me how it was going and I told her I loved it and was going to make it a life style!

I guess I don't get it, because I thought that the cereal was a carb and the sweet potato was a fiber and that the butter was going to help with the digestion thing. I didn't realize the cereal was a grain, but it is. So, do I eat a boiled egg with the cereal? That would be a protein with a grain, right?

This should make it easier.
Liz and Fanci, we have a thread with great detail about carb competitors, thought this might help:
Carb Competitors - how do they work? Why is slowing digestion important to losing weight? http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-fbsouthbeach/?msg=14117.1
Fanci,
Maybe this will help, if I explain some of the science. The protein and fat combo, like peanut butter, or an egg work best in most cases like this because they are carb competitors...that is, they slow the digestion of the carbohydrate, but also because they take longer themselves to be digested. They work sort of like a time release medication does. Starches work like one of the chewable or fast relief medicines, and proteins work like time release ones...slowly giving you their contribution over a period of a couple hours or so. That's why I try to always have some protein with any starch or fruit selection.
Other good choices include cheese, turkey bacon, canadian bacon as well as eggs or peanut butter I mentioned before. Another option is to have one of these things as your midmorning snack, and see if that helps, but it might work better to have it right with your breakfast for the carb competitor benefit!
I hope this helps you, and doesn't just make you more confused!

Thank you! That helped alot. If I understand how it works and not just go on what someone says, that is validation as well. That is also why I like this diet. It explains why some foods are best eaten with others and you are such a big help in answering questions that I don't know the answer to!

You're welcome, fanci
It's good to have molecular biologist on the board, isn't it? LOL I knew that degree would be handy, now if I could just find a JOB!
