Nursing so starting back in Phase 2!

Hi all! I'm back on the beach after being away for over a year. I lost about 20lbs back in early 2005. I got pregnant so I went off the beach and it has been hard getting motivated to get going again. I am nursing so it is going to be extra challenging to keep things in check especially in relation to cravings. I'm actually a little bummed that I don't get to go through Phase 1 because it really did help me last time. I just need to suck it up and do it though. Getting to eat more really shouldn't be so hard. ;o)

Anyone else nursing or pregnant?? How has it been going?

To help curb cravings, I'm going slow on the carbs. Maybe one serving of fruit and grains a day for the first week or so. I'm also going to get in the 4 cups of dairy recommended for nursing moms.

The meal plan for today is...

Breakfast:
1/2 cucumber
2 tbsp Artichoke & Chive Humus
2 cups milk (2 servings dairy)

Snack:
sadly I forgot my snack for today (1 oz string cheese) so I am about to run out and get a grilled chicken breast to snack on.

Lunch:
Grilled chicken salad from Chic-Fil-A
(with some extra chicken leftover from snack)

Edited to add another Snack:
Was getting hungry and definitely needed something! I had to scrounge around but came up with some humus, mild salsa, and a few pieces of cubed jalapeno Monterey Jack (a little high in fat but I was desparate!)

Dinner:
Uncle John's Chili http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-fbsouthbeach/?msg=17540.1
1 slice whole wheat bread
1 cup milk

Desert:
fresh blueberries and low-fat yogurt (sweetened with Splenda and vanilla)

So what is every one having today?

Oh and I guess I should put in my starting weight as I weighed in this morning. :o/
Jan 05: 331.5 lbs
Feb 05: 311 lbs
June 06: 322 lbs
First mini-goal...........Get Below 300!!!

Hi Carol,
Good luck with dieting and nursing at the same time -- you're a better woman than I! :-) I have a 2 year old and used nursing as an excuse to eat lots of stuff. Then, of course, I had to lose it. I've lost about 30 pounds in the 2 years since my son was born, been doing South Beach for about 5 months and am shooting to lose another 10 or so.

Here's what I've eaten/will eat today:

B: decaf coffee, Crystal Light, bowl of chilled cucumber yogurt soup (it's really hot here in VA right now and the soup was very refreshing)

S: shared popcorn at Target w/ my son (2 grains)

L: another bowl of cucumber soup; a few bites of Mediterranean salad (roasted red peppers, chopped tomato, black olives, artichoke hearts, mozzarella, balsamic vinegar & a little olive oil); 1/4 of my son's leftover Fluffernutter sandwich (a summertime treat, shouldn't have cheated but at least it was on whole wheat bread...)

S: dried apricots and some almonds

D: shredded beef brisket in ww tortilla w/ lettuce, salsa, rf sour cream, rf shredded Mexican cheese; big salad

I'm in Phase 2 and should be having 2-3 fruits and 3 grains a day, but I'm watching my fruit intake a bit closely as I think it's been slowing my weight loss down. Sort of experimenting on myself a little bit.

Welcome back to the Beach!

Sounds like a yummy day! I looked up the receipe for the soup and it looks *so* good. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-fbsouthbeach/?msg=16141.1 I will have to try it out!

I also have a 2 year old (2 1/2 this Wednesday to be exact!). I agree that it is easy to put of dieting when you are nursing but I'm starting to get scared for my health so it feels pretty urgent. Plus, I am only nursing a few times during the night now so he isn't getting a whole lot from me these days so it is hard to use that excuse. ;o)

Hmmm, Fluffe-nutter sandwiches...probably not something I should be dwelling on right now but I'm wondering if that may be just the thing to get my stubborn two year old to eat peanut butter!

Yup, Fluffernutter is the only way my 2 year old will eat pb right now. You could also try it with Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread) which is yummy.

Good luck!

Yup, Fluff is the good stuff -- and yes, it's yummy in a Fluffernutter sandwich. Even one a week would be too much in my book; my son has maybe 1 a month. But when you get the urge... ;-)
