Kind of messed up today

So it started off kind of strange but I don't think it was "illegal" exactly. For breakfast I had the left over serving of cheesecake pudding with blueberries from the night before. I was running late and just grabbed something! I also took some cucumber and cheese intending to eat it but was running around like a nut all morning at work and didn't have a chance to even fit in a snack!

That lead me to lunch where a friend of mine and I went out to eat. We didn't know where we were going ahead of time so I couldn't plan. :o/ I ended up finding what I think was a decent choice...a grilled chicken breast with guacamole and fresh spinach and some melted swiss on top (not low fat sadly). It also came with lettuce, tomato and red onion because it was supposed to be a sandwich and I asked them to forget the bread. My biggest sin came in the form of very yummy sweet potato fries (this cafe's speciality). I'm pretty sure they were fried but I had them anyway. :o/

I did pretty good for the rest of the day. Having cheese as an afternoon snack. This evening I had some left over Uncle John's Chili (so good!) with a big glass of milk.

THEN my dh (not darling right now) asked me to do him a "favor" and pack him up a slice of the Father's Day cake I made him to take to work tonight. I made it pre SBD about a week ago and about a 1/3 of it has been sitting in our fridge since I started on back. I had been successfully avoiding it, not wanting to throw out his Father's Day cake. In any case, I told him that I would do it but that it was kind of cruel to ask me to do it since it was obviously going to be very tempting to have to cut the cake and to have it RIGHT in front of me. He said he doesn't understand why I can't just decide not to have some and stick to it regardless of the circumstances. Grrrr... It just isn't that easy! I did end up sneaking a few bites of cake (just a few I swear!) and throwing the rest away. I also ended up taking a few finger licks of the icing still left on the cake plate but that is now in the sink and out of my reach. *sigh* I know it could have been worse but it was kind of disappointing. I know me and I know a few bites can quickly turn into something else altogether. I am also disappointed that my dh just doesn't seem to understand this stuggle at all. Anyone else dealing with a spouse who just doesn't understand? Anything actually get through to them?

So I definitely didn't do great today but tomorrow is another day right?

Thanks for listening!

I'm not married, but my parents still are. (30 years and still going!)

When my mom first started Weight Watchers, my dad was supportive in words but not always in action. She got through to him with an incentive, but he also agreed to this. I think that last part might be the key.

My dad loves carrot cake. I think he'd have a piece a week were he allowed. My mom is able to resist it even though she enjoys it too. She made one, and she left it covered but in plain sight. If he didn't touch it for a certain number of days, he could have some. If he even touched the frosting - it was out with the trash. Let's say there were a few cakes made. It drove the point home. Some temptations are so strong that it doesn't matter how much willpower you have. Sometimes you need to stay away from them.

Maybe your hubby could try giving up something that is a temptation for him be it food, golf, TV... anything. It just has to be in plain sight, and it can't be a trigger for you.

Stay strong. You didn't give up after a "bad day," and you strengthened your resolve. Would you have completely caved a year ago, a month ago, a week ago? If yes, let the knowledge that you came back here to stay on track put a smile on your face, and let that smile put a positive spin on your day. THat's the greatest treat we can have. AND it has no calories! (Might actually burn a few - muscle exercise!)

Thanks Karen! I agree starting with the pudding was a bad idea. I knew I was probably chancing it when I did that. I also am going to try to get better about planning. I try but my biggest problem right now is that I keep forgetting things. I dont have a stock pile of good foods to eat at work yet so if I forget something then I have to scrabble to find something that will work. Plus, yesterday I had to deal with this unknown of where we were going to be going which I know from experience is a bad idea.

So far today is going MUCH better. I planned what I was going to eat for breakfast this morning late last night. Scrambled eggs with peppers and onions, some whole wheat pita toast and a glass of milk. I'm still feeling pretty satisfied from it though I did go ahead and eat my string cheese for snack. For lunch I am having a grilled chicken salad w/ a diet lemonade and for dinner we are having buffalo chicken fingers (not breaded or fried obviously) over a salad. I haven't decided about dessert though maybe sugar-free jello since I am craving something pretty sweet right now (wish I had some jello with me at work!) though I'm hoping that the diet lemonade will help with that.

Thanks for responding!

I think I need to try that. I just have to find something that he really loves. It is hard because he does have exceptional willpower especially when he wants to prove a point. ;o)

Thanks for the insight and response! :o)

Just remember there are plenty of things that don't expire! Good luck. :)

Carol,

I'm glad to hear you are having a better day today!

When I need something sweet mid-day I look for a Kashi or SBD granola bar. It satisfies my sweet tooth and counts toward a grain serving ~ so I can save my sweet treat for later ;)
